  2. 5.0 Old Red Church (2 reviews)
    - Historic New England red wooden church.
Monday: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites
    Old Red Church image
The First Parish Meetinghouse in Standish Village, Maine is known as the Old Red Church. Built in 1804, it's a rural Federal period building and was first a church then an academy, and it's now a museum that's open a few days a week and by appointment. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a striking structure, especially because it's painted red and stands out from the typical New England white wooden church. Oh, it's also haunted. See more..
  3. 5.0 Hometown Furnishing Co. (1 review)
    - Phenomenal (and paranormal).
    Speciality & Gift Shops
    Hometown Furnishing Co. image
This place is great! It's in a historic 1794 house and is vendor-driven, with loads of home decor and furniture that's vintage, retro, farmhouse, antique, folk, old-school, etc. The owner refinishes a lot of the furniture himself, and he even sells Farmhouse Paint if you want to custom paint any pieces you buy. There are three floors full of tastefully-displayed and well-organized items, and the prices are extremely reasonable. There's also a small cafe in the home (Hometown Coffee Co.) that's open Friday through Sunday that has quality coffee, bagels, and in-house baked goods, and a wide porch to sit on to enjoy your food and drink. And, the place is known to be haunted. See more..
  4. 5.0 Sebago Lake Trading Company (1 review)
    - Good stop
    Monday: Speciality & Gift Shops
    Sebago Lake Trading Company image
We showed up at a few min to 5. The owner opened the shop back up, chatted and laughed with us as we perused the fascinating collection of antique, repurposed and hand made goodies. I was really into the animal portraits on reclaimed wood and the tote bags made from grain sacks. Ultimately we bought a couple books about Maine and she threw in a cool canvas tote for us to carry our purchases in. My one piece of advice is that the place is a little cluttered/close so leave the stroller at home along with the rambunctious little ones. See more..
  5. 5.0 Mountain Division Trail (1 review)
    - TREK ON THE WINDHAM-STANDISH SEGMENT
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Mountain Division Trail image
The Mountain Division Trail is a rail trail with several segments with some completed and some still being worked on. Eventually, it will be over 50 miles long. It will extend from Fryeburg on the New Hampshire border to Portland on the ocean. Several sections are paved. I trekked on the Windham-Standish Segment that has its own parking and an access point adjacent to Johnson Field. Although not paved in this part, the terrain was fairly level. I found it to be a pleasant trek in the woods. Previously, I trekked another section in the Gorham area. Taken as a whole, this trail is already excellent but will be even better when all segments are finished. I rate the Mountain Division Trail at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit. 6. 5.0 Sebago Lake Station Landing (1 review)
    - Exceptionally Scenic Public Boat Landing on Sebago Lake
Spent < 1 hour Scenic Walking Areas
    Sebago Lake Station Landing image
This popular, town-operated landing had few amenities for visitors. It had one dock for launching and landing boats as well as a small, sandy beach. Signs warned sternly not to have body contact with the water since the beach is near the primary water intake for Portland and its environs. Parking was in a large, paved lot, most of which was dedicated to vehicles and boat trailers. The landing charged differentiated daily parking fees for resident and non-resident boaters, but it also had several free, one-hour spaces for scenic viewing. The landing afforded excellent and expansive scenic views northwards across Sebago Lake and nearby Frye Island. I appreciated the unique views of Sebago Lake; I disliked nothing. See more..
  7. 4.0 Marrett House (3 reviews)
    - Worth a visit
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
Saw the exterior of this beautiful 1789 Greek revival home that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It wasn't open for tours, but I plan to go back in October when they host an open house and art festival. The 1804 wooden Old Red Church down the road is also a classic beauty and supposedly haunted. 8. 4.0 Standish Skate Park (1 review)
    - COMPACT SKATE PARK WITH ENOUGH CHALLENGING TERRAIN
    Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Standish Skate Park image
Heading to Windham, I stopped for a leg stretch at the town recreational area that had Standish Skate Park and Johnson Field before going over to the access point for the Mountain Division Trail at the opposite end of the area. I parked at Johnson Field’s lot and used the Port-O-Let over by Standish Skate Park. At the skate park, there was a young man in his late 20’s getting a great workout on his skateboard. I watched him for about 15 minutes. Although not large, the layout of the skate park presents enough challenging terrain for a good workout. I rate the Standish Skate Park at 4.0.
