  1. 5.0 Sparks Bank Nature Center (2 reviews)
    - Beautiful slice of nature along the river
    Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
    Sparks Bank Nature Center image
The Sparks nature Center and park are easy to locate on Sparks Road off York Road just a few miles north of Hunt Valley. The park borders the Big Gunpowder River above where it joins Loch Raven Reservoir. There is adequate parking at the old bank/nature center, and many people were seen unloading bicycles and setting off on the well maintained paths running both north and south. The path apparently follows what was once the Northern Central Railroad line. The nature center itself is only open on weekends. The old iron bridge across the river is of historical interest itself. Also there is an old elementary school along the road, and both the school and bank are made of stone. The school is over 110 years old and has not been restored since a fire 20+ years ago. The bank was building over 105 years ago. The plaque/historical market on site has not been well maintained and is difficult to read. The combination of local history and well preserved woodlands make fir an enjoyable outing. See more..
  2. 5.0 Calvert's Gift Farm (1 review)
    - Variety of organic vegetables
    Farms
    Calvert's Gift Farm image
Calvert's Gift Farm offers certified organic fruits and vegetables on a subscription basis and also at several area farmers markets. I especially enjoy the heirloom tomatoes both for their unusual appearance and fresh taste. Learned that there was a difference between Polish and German garlic. A variety of peppers from mild to hot are on sale and good for grilling like Shishito or in sauces like habenero. Occasionally there are unusual mushrooms like both chicken and hen of the woods. The proprietors are always glad to explain the different items. See more..
  3. 4.5 USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2 reviews)
    - Lacrosse History and More
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Speciality Museums
USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame image
Even if you are not a lacrosse fan, you will enjoy a visit here. First, it is located in the USA Lacrosse building, but there is poor signage for the Hall of Fame. You enter through the MedSafe office building and the hall is on the right toward the back of the building. There is no charge. The displays span well over a hundred years of modern lacrosse history. There is extensive information about the origins of lacrosse. Some of the exhibits are interactive. Tucked away in one corner is a spot to record yourself talking about the sport and to email a postcard. At the end of your visit, there is lots to see outside as you walk the circumference of the field. Make sure you take a picture at the Founder's Statue. See more..
  4. 4.0 Basignani Winery (56 reviews)
    - Fun time at the vineyard
    Saturday: 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM Wineries & Vineyards

My wife and I attended a Towson University Alumni event at the Vineyard. A Beatles tribute band, Saving Sergeant Pepper, played during the event. The band was good, but not great. There was plenty of green space for our chairs and the grounds are very attractive. We bought a bottle of Riesling to share while we listened to the music. It was a little sweet, but was still pretty enjoyable. We bought another bottle to take home, along with a bottle of the Vidal Blanc. The wine prices were reasonable, and they were not increased for the event. I only have one complaint. There were probably 100-200 people in attendance, and only one indoor bathroom for women, and one outdoor port-a-pot for the men. For this many people, there needs to be an appropriate increase in sanitary facilities. See more..
