-Fun!
Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Railroads
We stopped on a whim having seen the free train rides sign. It was so fun. Super casual and it was only adults at the time - kids at heart! Cute little museum as well. Fun experience for a break in the drive and a nice looking town. See more..

-Amazing Falls
Waterfalls
Took a day trip up towards Stevens Pass and found this interesting gem along the way. Parking lot was closed due to COVID19 but several areas to pull off along the highway. Be careful, traffic is zooming by. Easy walk on groomed trail and stairs down to viewing areas. Pedestrian bridge crosses creek to other side to walk under highway bridge. Very fast flowing creek in wet season. Short nature trail also here down to main river. Well worth the stop when passing through. See more..

-Awesome Hike
Hiking Trails
Started at the Interpretive Site, and took the low trail, hiked the connector up to the upper trail, and went all the way to Windy Point Lookout. Returned to the parking lot via the switchback. I would recommend this route for most folks. If we had started out heading up the steep switchback, we would have had second thoughts about going another 5 miles to get back to the parking lot. That said, the trail is in great shape, a very gentle rise that you don't notice, lots of info signs, tunnels, snow sheds and view points. The lower trail is better maintained and marked than the upper one, but there was a work party out clearing the bush on the upper trail on Tuesday. Total hiking time 3 hours including a stop for lunch and enjoying the view. Really hazy due to fires in Eastern WA See more..

-Wonderful Intermediate Hike to Large Alpine Lake
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
Water rushing over rocks and through some old growth timber stands! this is the best of the being outdoors in Western Washington. About an hour's drive from I5/405, this trail takes you up to a, Alpine Lake on a trail that is in good condition and offers some unusual features-- like low falls and swimming holes. Not an easy trail, but not brutal-- my old knees were fine up and back. Families with kids passed us along the way and were picnicing nearby. The lake is cold, but warmer than many and has a few good spots for setting up a picnic. We did not continue on, but there are camp sites and outhouses at the far end of the lake before the trail heads up to Bear Lake. See more..
