    Candlewood Lake image
We were invited to the private lake house neighborhood of Candelwood Lake in New Fairfield by friends of ours to celebrate the fourth of July, only a 45 minute ride from Trumbull and it feels like a whole different world, reminds me of the Cape, beautiful beaches and crystal clear water the Lake is huge about 8 miles and is the largest lake in Connecticut, the lake is bordered by five towns: Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, and Sherman, there is also public access to the lake, where we were, there was a private dock and 2 beaches with swimming platforms, we also went on our friends pontoon for a ride across the lake, it is beautiful up and down the Lake, there were plenty of other boaters, water skiers and jet skis enjoying the great weather, fun time was had by all, can't wait to return See more..

    - Hiking dawn to dusk with plenty of birding along the paths
Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
Visiting this wonderland for my first visit was a delight. With 20 miles of well marked trails covering 800+ acres was a surprise. With so much naturalized forest to wander you could feel like you were 1,000 miles from anywhere yet it's just 90 minutes from NYC. 5 minutes from Sherman Town Center. The trails were wide and fairly well groomed. There was plenty of parking and with snow you can snowshoe. See more..

White Silo Farm & Winery image
My husband and I just arrive in Sherman for 4 months and booked the Pizza Sunday event to White Silo after reading all the glowing reviews on trip advisor. The bar was set high but the entire experience exceeded all our expectations! It helped that it was a gloriously sunny spring day but couple that with an incredible setting, fabulous pizza, great rhubarb wine and Dan Sawyer on the guitar and you have an 11! He brought me to tears of JOY! We could not have asked for a better way to spend the afternoon. We will definitely return over and over! See more..

  6. 4.0 The Old Store Gift Shop & Museum (1 review)
    - A visit to an old timey New England store/museum with modern merchandise
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
When you travel through Sherman, CT, in the heart of the little town is a lovely 200 year old mercantile exchange, (store.) It's been a store for 200 years and the leaning wood floors and big pane windows along with the creaks tell you so. Half the building is a museum featuring a time before Candlewood Lake including Native American articles found in the area and the history of the town. The other half is a wonderful store of probably 1,000 different items that are selected by the all volunteer staff. Wonderful scarves, purses, children's items, hostess gifts, costume jewelry and unusual cool things. There is even an old candy counter. Definitely worth the stop to see the old photos in the museum, check your weight on the penny scale and shop. Parking in back or at the next door library. See more..
