  3. 5.0 Foon Estate Vineyard (5 reviews)

  4. 5.0 Lemolo Falls (5 reviews)
    - Always love this hike along the river
    Waterfalls
    Lemolo Falls image
We were able to take this hike in early July when the Washington Lilies were starting to bloom. Their fragrance was heavy in the air. They should last until the end of the month. We hiked here in May and numerous trees were down across the trail then. Only the first half of the trail has been cleared this time. 8 cars were parked at the trailhead, but it was no problem keeping our physical distance on the 1.5 mile trail. See more..
  5. 5.0 Palotai Vineyard & Winery (2 reviews)
    - The Home of Bull's Blood Red
Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
Palotai is a very small, very informal winery that makes a nice contrast to some of the more commercial wineriesin the South Umpqua Valley AVA, but it is worth the detour. They are keeping alive the Hungarian tradition of winemaking, including their incomparable version of the legendary Bull's Blood red blend. There are many others in the area who attempt this blend; Palotai is the original - accept no substitutes. The hosts are knowledgeable and great characters. In addition, the grounds have a picnic area overlooking the N. Umpqua River. Just don't be fooled by their neighbor's sculptures of Canada geese on your way into the winery - they're very realistic but just slightly too large. The neighbor's odd sense of humor fits right in with the overall vibe of this excellent but very low-key winery. Highly recommended. See more..
  6. 4.5 Abacela (163 reviews)
    - Enjoyed Iberian varietals under the sun with a beautiful view of green hills beyond vines
    Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
    Abacela image
Abacela is a world-class, multi-award winning winery and viticulture success story. Founders Earl and Hilda Jones first planted in 1995 they had no way of knowing what the outcome would be. Abacela was an experiment they hoped would answer a question that had puzzled them for years: Why doesn't America produce any fine varietal Tempranillo wine? Earl and Hilda probably weren't the first enophiles to wonder why the great grape of Spain's famous Rioja wines was mysteriously absent from American fine wine. However they were the first to approach the question with scientific rigor, form a hypothesis and then devote their lives to testing it. Abacela is the result of one ordinary family's curiosity and determination that transformed their lives, built one of Oregon's best-loved wineries and influenced winegrowing not only in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, but across America. Visit our Vine & Wine Center and taste our delicious wines! No outside food or drink is allowed, thank you. See more..
  7. 4.5 HillCrest Winery and Distillery (126 reviews)
    - BEST tasting in the Umpqua Region
    Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
    HillCrest Winery and Distillery image
Oregon's oldest estate winery and the birthplace of Oregon Pinot Noir. In 2014 HillCrest was recognized by the state of Oregon and in Vienna, Austria for its global contributions to the world of fine wine. In 2003 the DeMara family, with over 36 years of winemaking and grape growing around the world, took over from the Father of Oregon wine and HillCrest founder Richard Sommer. Today they specialize in classic European varieties from France, Spain and Germany crafted using the very best of old world techniques. These include the use of patented concrete fermentors for reds, extended ageing of 2-7 years and dry farming. The DeMaras invite you to taste in their tasting room which is opened every day of the year minus the big 4 holidays. There is usually a selection of 8-9 wines that are available for tasting with many more wines for sale from the wineries library. These wines are only sold here at the winery. See more..
  8. 4.5 Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards (99 reviews)
    - Owner Welcomed Us In at Closing
    Sunday: Wineries & Vineyards
    Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards image
This is a great family owned winery on about 200 acres new Umpqua, OR. They grow all of the grapes for their wine on this property - no mixing in or blends from other vineyards. We showed up right before closing and it is a little drive in through the rolling estate to get to the tasting room. By the time we got parked and in it was closing time - that did not bother the owner who had an employee guide us back into a private tasting alcove which is built into the side of the hill. I think they call it the Tasting Cave and it was a cool escape from the 90° outside heat - quite unique. We tasted 2 reds and 2 whites and ended up purchasing 3 bottles of white wine - one thing that all of the wines had in common - they were very, very smooth. We had a great time and are thinking about joining the wine club to receive shipments throughout the year. See more..

  10. 4.5 Douglas County Museum of Natural & Cultural History (67 reviews)
    - Best Museum on Interstate 5
    Sunday: History Museums
Douglas County Museum of Natural & Cultural History image
How many times have you driven past the Douglas County Fairgrounds and read the reader board in front of the Museum? How many times have you stopped at the Museum? What a shame. Douglas County has the best Museum on I-5 and not nearly enough of us patronize it. It has wonderful exhibits of History, our culture and natural wildlife, all interesting enough to keep kids and adults alike riveted. It's a perfect place to spend a nice afternoon, winter or summer. If you have some time and some questions, in the basement is a surprisingly complete research library. Shelves and shelves of books and filing cabinets full of a fascinating collection of Southern Oregon History await your perusal. We have a treasure chest right here in our front yard, it's time to explore it. See more..
  11. 4.5 Riversdale Valley Farm (52 reviews)
    - Great Find
    Farms
    Riversdale Valley Farm image
Found this place on Trip Advisor and figured it was worth a visit. We spent well over an hour wandering thru the buildings and yard. John was friendly, helpful and entertaining while we scavenged thru all the treasures. His place is well organized, prices were quite good and we found a number of pieces that we loved. Great place if you like antiques, yard art, old furniture or rusty stuff!!! Loved it! See more..
  12. 4.5 Melrose Vineyards (49 reviews)
    - Beautiful Venue, Delicious Wines
    Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM Wineries & Vineyards
    Melrose Vineyards image
We were staying nearby, and after reading all the wonderful reviews, decided to check out Melrose Vineyards. We are so glad that we did! The tasting room and grounds are beautiful, with several parking options available for a future visit with our 40ft 5th wheel (Melrose is a Harvest Host member). The wines available for tasting were extensive, but we chose to stick with reds and were not disappointed. We loved them all, so hard to choose a favorite. Highly recommend the dolcetto and the baco noir. Carrie, the wine maker’s wife and our lovely server, was quite knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. We can’t wait to come back with our rig for a longer visit. See more..
  13. 4.5 Clearwater Falls (35 reviews)
    - Gorgeous!
    Spent < 1 hour Waterfalls
    Clearwater Falls image
Off HWY 138. Signage is good. The road is very narrow. The parking area is moderate. Pit toilets. Some information boards. Not much of a trail. More an easy walk. 400 feet of boardwalk & an accessible viewing platform. This is a gorgeous waterfall with good water flow in August. Out of the four waterfalls we visited that morning this was a favorite! See more..

    Discovery Garden image
If you would like to spend a relaxing time in a well maintained garden this is the place for you. It has been developed and maintained by the Douglas County Master Gardeners for the benefit of the public. It has been gaining recognition by the visiting of RVers that stay in the park across the street. Many of them say they come to that park just to experience the garden. For a special treat visit the garden during the spring and summer on Tuesdays and watch the Master Gardeners at work. One of them will probably volunteer to give you a guided tour of the garden. If you are interested in group tours or more information call the Douglas County Oregon State University Extension Office. See more..

  22. 4.5 Susan Creek Campground (15 reviews)
    - Immaculate
Spent More than 3 hours Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Susan Creek Campground image
Contrary to other reviews we did not find it crowded. There is enough vegetation between sites for some privacy. The campground is in the middle of a massive burn scar but they were able to protect it. When we arrived our campsite was in perfect condition, the whole site had been carefully raked, and they even left an artistic pattern in the gravel. Kudos to the camp hosts. See more..

  25. 4.5 Delfino Vineyards (8 reviews)
    - Lovely Tasting and View
    Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Wineries & Vineyards
    Delfino Vineyards image
At Delfino Vineyards, I played with the on-site dogs, tasted the wine, and had a mini-tour, where I was shown outside, shaded seating and the pond, with wild ducks, was pointed out to me. I tasted 5 or 6 wines. The tasting is $7 or free with a purchase of 1 (or more) bottle of wine. I liked the riesling, tempranillo, and cabernet the best. Unfortunately, the zinfandel was not to my taste. I also recommend trying the Tempranillo chocolates. They were delicious! See more..
  26. 4.5 Mount Thielsen (6 reviews)
    - A view you will forget
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Mount Thielsen image
The trailhead to Mount Thielsen is off of Highway 138. The trail takes about an hour or more to hike to the top of the Mountain. Mount Thielsen is over 9,000 feet tall and parts pf the trail are steep and the final approach to the summit is could be a little intimidating since it goes through a narrow slot in the rock. The exposure is dramatic and the view is incredible. If you plan a visit make sure you check the weather forecast. As with other peaks in the Cascades, this mountain can change personality from welcoming to very dangerous, depending on the approaching storm. Lightning storms in the area should definitely be avoided. The peak is called the lightning rod of the Cascades for a good reason. See more..

  28. 4.0 Spangler Vineyards (28 reviews)
    - Loved our visit
    Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Wineries & Vineyards
    Spangler Vineyards image
When a local wine expert listed Spangler as one of his top Umpqua Valley choices, we knew it was time to visit. But. Some of the recent reviews were pretty terrible. “Unclean, nobody waiting on you, etc…” So, of course, we had to go. And what a stunner. The local wine expert knew what he was talking about. Great wines, lovely spot, and personable owner. We sat and enjoyed the wines while chatting with the guy that owned and ran the place. The customer before us hauled off two cases of the stuff. After time spent wading through much of his catalog, we opted for the Merlot, the Syrah, and several bottles of an amazing chilled sparkling almond wine. I know, sounds crazy. But wow! We’ll go again! See more..
