    Rifle Heritage Center image
We spent 2-3 hours in the museum and were delighted by the well-curated exhibits we found in each room. There are two floors with artifact collections, photographs, and so much more focusing tightly on the area in and around Rifle. Our guides were knowledgeable and clearly loved sharing this wonderful museum with visitors. Each item is arranged to be part of the Rifle story. We sure could have stayed longer and will certainly plan to visit again. See more..
  5. 4.5 Rifle Falls (375 reviews)
    - Propose to someone here lol
    Waterfalls
    Rifle Falls image
Great park. You can drive in and park in the day area. The cost was $7 for a drive in and $4 if you walked or road a bike. The falls were beautiful and had 3-4 places to stop at different levels of the falls. I enjoyed going behind them. The caves are neat as well. I walked the whole loop stopping at everything in 1.5 - 2 hours. I was alone but this would be a great place to take a date or kids. Definitely would make a great proposal place too. See more..
  6. 4.5 Rifle Gap State Park (53 reviews)
    - Swim beach!
    State Parks
    Rifle Gap State Park image
An unexpected beautiful surprise. We drove out here for the falls but stayed the afternoon at the swim beach tucked all the way in the back of the park. Blue waters, Sandy/small rock beach and clear clean for swimming. Very quiet. Seemed like a local place. Great place for kayaking, throwing a frisbee, floating in an inner tube or splashing with the kids. A few picnic tables in the shade. Toilet available. See more..
  7. 4.5 Harvey Gap State Park (44 reviews)
    - The Perfect Lake to SUP or Kayak
    State Parks
    Harvey Gap State Park image
This is in our backyard, but I thought some local knowledge might help people from out of town. This is a lovely state park to fish, kayak, paddle baord, and swim. The water can be a bit brisk, but you get used to it after getting in. The wind picks up in the afternoon so plan to come early or come later in the evening for the best conditions on the water. Later in the summer, the water levels start to drop from irrigating and the mud gets a little smelly, but it's still a the best place to learn how to SUP in western Colorado. High Society Paddle Boards from Aspen films commercials here so come check it out. See more..
  8. 4.5 Rifle Arch Trail (11 reviews)
    - Hike the Arch!
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Rifle Arch Trail image
On a recent trip to Colorado, we hiked the Rifle Arch Trail, a round trip of approx 3.6 miles and an altitude rise of 8-900 ft. from around 6000 ft. The trail head is marked and easily found along the road, with good parking available and the trail path is clearly evident. As a couple of healthy, active 60 year olds, we found the hike to be invigorating and challenging without being overtly difficult or taxing, esp. with the aid of our trekking poles. The views are gorgeous and it was great to see the plant and wildlife up close! Hike this trail! See more..
  9. 4.5 Midland Arts Company (3 reviews)
    - Worth a detour
    Monday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality & Gift Shops
    Midland Arts Company image
On a road trip through Colorado we stopped in Rifle for lunch and found this amazing shop. It's an art Co-op representing 50 local artists. High quality work with very reasonable prices. It's a real gem and worth a detour. Don't miss it. See more..
  10. 4.0 Centennial Park (8 reviews)
    - Nice City Park
    Parks
    Centennial Park image
We always try to find city parks for our lunch time picnics when we're on the road and this one was a winner. Park looks relatively new and is tucked into a residential area right off the main street of the town. There are several areas - covered picnic tables, a walking path and a stage. When we were there, we saw several people walking with their children and dogs, so it's nice to see it being used locally. There are two port-a-johns for restrooms, but they were clean and well-stocked. See more..
