    Northwest Seaplanes image
I scheduled a solo trip with my dog to scatter my mother’s ashes over the Puget Sound as she requested. I was coming from out of town. We were delayed one day due to weather conditions. Shane and Michelle were very amiable and kept open communication the whole time, thoroughly explaining the safety concerns and updating me. We finally had an opening the next morning. Shane was very respectful when we did the scattering. I'm incredibly satisifed with the final results. Highly recommend NW Seaplanes for whatever flying plans one may have. See more..

  15. 4.5 Lake Youngs Trail (3 reviews)
    - Fun mid- morning ride
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Horseback Riding Tours
This is a trail that goes nearly 10 miles around the perimeter fence of Lake Youngs. This lake is a reservoir that supplies the city of Seattle with drinking water, so it is fenced to prevent contamination. The trail varies from a gravel road, to a single track trail, but is well maintained and it travels outside the perimeter fence. You cannot see the lake from anywhere along the trail as it travels through woods, along roads and behind residential developments. The morning I took my bike ride was sunny (although the trail is mostly in the shade due to dense forest) and there were not many people out. The trail has an elevation gain of over 800 feet according to my iPhone and it took just under an hour to complete the ride -- starting at my house which is about half a mile from the trailhead. 17. 4.5 Cedar River Trail Park (2 reviews)
    - Watch Salmon Migration
    Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Cedar River Trail Park image
This was another stop along the Salmon Journey promoted by the Seattle Aquarium during the month of October. Next to the overpass and spanning the width of the river was a salmon gate that was used to control the number and types of salmon allowed to go upstream. For most of the day the gate was open but for the endangered chinook salmon they were permitted to go through at anytime given their small numbers compared to the coho. It was amazing to see the salmon jumping so high in their quest to return to their spawning grounds from where they were originally born. Definitely recommend visiting during the salmon spawning season in October. See more..

  20. 4.0 Renton History Museum (11 reviews)
    - Exceeded Expectations
Monday: Spent < 1 hour History Museums
    Renton History Museum image
I’ve passed this modest looking museum many times, but had never ventured in. From the outside, it’s small and nondescript. I imagined the inside was similar. I think I pictured card tables with some artifacts plus some old black and white pictures on the wall. My expectations were low. It is small, maybe 1/2 hour to go through, but it’s very well organized with bright displays and tells the story of early Renton really well. I walked away with a much better understanding of the region’s early history and certainly learned new things. If you wanted to partake, there was also an interactive play where they recreated a moment in Renton history. It’s also free admission the first Wednesday and third Saturday of every month, but it would also be worth $5 adult admission. See more..

  22. 4.0 Riverview Park (5 reviews)
    - Salmon Spawning in October
    Parks
    Riverview Park image
We caught the last day of the Seattle Aquarium sponsored salmon journey. This park was off the 169 and the entrance can easily be missed as you come around the bend. A bridge linked the park to the lot. Most of the volunteers were on the bridge pointing out the clean spots in the river where the salmon had already deposited their eggs. A few coho salmon in their bright red spawning colors were still seeking partners. It was hoped that with the recent rains that increased river levels and cooled water temperature more of the salmon would finally make their way up from the lake. Inside the park there was a large grassy area, covered seating and building for the restrooms. Pets were also welcome. We followed the main paved path and found ourselves surrounded with huge trees and followed it along the river for awhile. There were limited bicyclists and walkers on the path so it was very quiet and peaceful. See more..

  29. 3.0 Cedar River Dog Park (1 review)
    - There are better dog parks around, but...
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
This one is a bit tricky to get to. Some maps show it as northwest of I-405, but one actually takes a small road off of Houser Way which takes you under I-405 to a small parking area on the south side of the river. Alternatively, one can access the park from Cedar Park off of Maple Valley Highway, parking at the I-405 side of the City of Renton Community Center therein. However, that's a much longer walk that is partly underneath the freeway and a bit on the dark side at times. Plusses of this dog park. Size: it's huge. Lots of activities for the dogs, e.g. ramps. It's flat. There's covered seating areas for their humans. There's water for the dogs. Minuses: it's mostly hard dirt and rocky. One of our dogs cut up the pads of her paws from running about too much. If you do go there, set a timer for 20 minutes if you've got a dog(s) that run around a lot. See more..
  30. 2.5 Fortune Poker (6 reviews)

    Fortune Poker image
After a long day traveling, we were tired and hungry. This was the nearest restaurant to our hotel, so we tried it out. The huge menu incorporates both American favorites and Chinese food. Service was prompt and friendly, portions were generous and prices reasonable. The restaurant is in an area separate from the casino, so the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. See more..
