   We were driving to Mount St. Helen's. We saw some parking and we stopped. The Spirit Lake is between two attractions: Windy Ridge Viewpoint and Johnston Ridge Observatory. We had two options: Walking to the Spirit Lake or take pictures from the parking lot . The best option is to trek towards the Spirit Lake. It is so special and attractive and it isn't too difficult to hike. Many tourists love that Spirit Lake. Wow! A must see! See more..

   Stopped here on our way back from Tri Cities area in Washington. This attraction is a short drive south from Randle Washington. We had heard about it from some folks and decide to stop for a break on the drive back to Portland area. Take Forest Service Road 23 south from Highway 12 just west of Randle. The signage is good, but you have to pay attention. The trailhead to the cave is off FSR 23 to the left and the road is gravel for about 1.25 miles. When you get to the wide spot in the road with parking you area here. The trailhead is not marked very well, but is off to the left. If you go by this point, the road narrows and gets pretty washboard and not good for two wheel vehicles. There are no turn arounds, so be careful. The trail is about 800 feet (from the parking area to the cave entrance). There are interpretive signs and nice views along the trail, but area was not well maintained (trash and vandalism).
