    The Candy Shoppe image
As an avid reader of Debbie Macomber; I knew that she based her Cedar Cove series on Port Orchard. My granddaughter & I had been in Auburn at Wild Waves and when I realized we weren't too far from Port Orchard- we made a side trip there. What a quaint little town! As we walked around the different shops we came across The Candy Shoppe and indulged in amazing fudge! There were many items that brought back childhood memories for me! The staff was very friendly & accomodating in allowing us to sample the many flavors of fudge available. Definitely worth a stop to check it out! See more..

  8. 4.5 Veterans Living History Museum (19 reviews)
    - Military History Buffs!! Attention! About Face! Get in here!
Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
    Veterans Living History Museum image
Honestly, I'm not that into military history but I found this little place to be incredible. What makes it great is the curator (and his dog) who is a self-described story-teller (the curator not the dog). This is his own personal collection and he not only knows about it (in detail) but has met most of the men from whom he has derived his collection. Plus it's free. There is a little tip jar if you'd like but he certainly doesn't push it, we just saw it. Dale Nitz, the curator and a veteran himself, tells you stories, if you'd like, about the collection, how he got the pieces, the folks he's met along the way, etc. "We found that in ladies basement," he tells us of a spent fuel tank, "and they were going to throw it away. She was using it for heating oil." Take your time because Dales in no hurry. If you're ever in Port Orchard, Washington, stop in and let Dale take you on a trip through history. It will be well worth your time. See more..

  11. 4.5 Howe Farm Historic Park and Off Leash Dog Park (12 reviews)
    - Wide Trails and a Large Field
    Parks
Howe Farm Historic Park and Off Leash Dog Park image
This is a great place for off leash fun. The trails are very nice; they are much wider than the trails at Bandix Dog Park. You cross over small creeks on nice, wooden bridges. Watch out for large tree roots across the path. There was no mud when we went, but there might be after a good rain. It is completely fenced. Even when back on the wooded trails it felt very safe. It borders Long Lake Road and Mile Hill so when you get away from the open area you still hear traffic close to you. There is a nice open field for socializing, romping and stomping. There are lots of benches and water bowls in the field and on the trails. You can take an empty water jug home and return it full of water. The Howe Farm barn is fenced off separate from the dog park area. When we visited, all the people and dogs we met were friendly. See more..

  13. 4.5 Western Washington Center for the Arts (6 reviews)
    - Great performances without the hassle or exorbitant cost.
    Theatre & Performances
It may look to be too small to be any good, but don't judge this book by its cover. The director does an amazing job of blocking. She makes the stage feel large, Yet the limited seating makes the theatre very intimate. One of the best parts is that you won't have to pay downtown Seattle prices. You can afford to treat your family to a cultural event without having to be the Rockefellers. There are a variety of performances from comedy to drama, and lots of musicals that are well done. And if your child is looking for something fun, they may wish to try the summer program. See more..

    - A tiny bit of everything
    Farmers Markets
    Port Orchard Farmers Market image
A couple of bakery stalls, some produce, meat and cheese, some crafty items...and you’re done. It’s small but nice. The only ready-to-eat food choices were bbq and hotdogs so we ate downtown. The site is beautiful, sitting right on the water along a walking path. There’s plenty of covered seating and restrooms in the adjoining park. This would be a really great farmer’s market if it grew a little. See more..
