Sitting only 18 miles South of the US border with Quebec, Plattsburgh was once a major hub in the fur trade with Montreal. The city is made for walking, full of beautiful turn of the century buildings and manicured parks. A River Walk follows the Saranac River as it cuts through town, ending at the shores of Lake Champlain, home to Champy, the American cousin of the Loch Ness Monster. The surrounding area is part of Adirondack Park, America's largest wilderness preserve outside of Alaska.

Originally, we were looking at spending thousands of dollars on a fishing expedition in Quebec or Ontario but found we could have that great experience at a much lower cost right here in Plattsburgh! Eastern View Outfitters provides all the gear and a modern, safe boat. We started first thing in the morning and got to appreciate an amazing Sunrise on a quiet Lake Champlain, in addition to bringing in approximately 15 big Lakers among the 3 of us. The farm also raises Belgian Draft Horses, cattle, and donkeys. We are open from mid September through October for pumpkin picking and corn maze adventures. There is also fresh produce seasonally. Saw AJ Croce at the Strand. I’m a bit more used to fancier theaters with carpeting. The Strand has painted concrete floors. This allowed guests to bring soft drinks and water into the performance. There are a number of campsites and trails on this beautiful island . The Valcour Island Heritage Trail is a 7.5 mile loop around the island, but the true highlight is the Bluff Point Lighthouse. The Clinton County Historical Assn. (CCHA) conducts tours of the lighthouse interior on Sunday afternoons in July and August. The lighthouse was built in 1874, the last manned light station on beautiful Lake Champlain. A steel tower and automated light was erected in 1930 to replace it but the old light and its function have been restored thanks to the CCHA. The lower two floors of the building, living quarters for the light keeper and family, contain some historical exhibits about the history of the lighthouse. You can climb up to the light itself (now solar-powered battery operated) and go out on to the small balcony for a fantastic view of the lake and the region. See more..

This is a wonderful place for a short walk through old growth forest on conserved farmland, situated on a point of land on Lake Champlain about 30 minutes south of the Canadian border. The surrounding shoreline is composed of very interesting shale, where one can sit quietly while watching gulls fly and colorful sailboats float by. it is a peaceful place but there is also a public swimming beach and Nature Center with educational programs available. I have been told it is great in winter for gentle cross country skiing. A fine spot in summer for a quick touch of Mother Nature in repose. Boats can be put into the lake at 2 locations, and the main access is on Lake Shore Drive which is great for biking and just 10 minutes north of the city Plattsburgh. I love this race track. family friendly, nice racing. Good pricing for the amount of races. I would recommend these races over many others. Security on the ball. good sportsman race track. many sponsors and benefits. Community supports. Last year a dump truck driver passed away and to let the company hell the losse of their all around good guy driver, the race track did a memorial for them. letting a few dump trucks drive on the track, and displayed a banner on one of the trucks for the whole night of racing. It's good to see its not all corporations and money driven but places still do care about what happens in the community, and the people that are apart of it. its fun to work hard but also nice to come to a track were so much is going on that does care. im very happy its now dirt track because its great seeing the cars slide around the corners. This hidden gem of a gallery has a separate entrance to the library at SUNY Plattsburgh. His paintings, drawings and prints are on view, along with study sketches of his illustrated version of Moby Dick. there are also excellent examples of his commercial work, ads, sets of dishes, jewelry drawings. We were surprised to read about it by chance in a review of Asgaard Farm, Rockwell Kent's home in Ausable Forks, NY and decided to find the place.
