Menu was enticing and the food tasty. The best I have had in the Lakes area. Salmon perfectly seasoned and cooked. Several handmade pizza options that were scrumptious. Extensive beer choices-something for everyone. We had dinner and then went to the taproom for another round. The live music was was great entertainment. We will return often. See more..

  3. 5.0 Pittsfield Mill Dam (1 review)
    - SECRET SPECTACULAR DAM WITH COLORFUL LED FLOODLIGHTS AT NIGHT
    Spent < 1 hour Dams

It's been pretty much a secret kept among locals that this spectacular dam exists. After a rainstorm when the Suncook River is flowing swiftly over the spillway, the Pittsfield Mill Dam is quite a spectacle. The dam, also called the Factory Dam, was built in 1920. The date appears on the cement on the side of the dam. This dam replaced a wooden dam constructed in 1883. What makes Pittsfield Mill Dam spectacular? First, it's an impressive 422 feet wide and 21 feet high. Its ogee spillway measures 139 feet. Second, energy-efficient, color-changing LED floodlights illuminate it and the river at night. There is a small strip park between the sidewalk and the safety railing along the edge of the river below. There was park bench with a great view of everything. In the park area, there was a local historic marker titled Cram's Purchase. It tells that story of Mr. Cram's purchase of that land and his establishing a sawmill and a grist mill there. His original dam was made of logs. From the 1800's, the dam supplied power downstream to the Exeter Manufacturing Company’s cotton mills. My visit was the day after a significant rainstorm. The river was flowing over the dam very fast. Some locals said that days earlier the flow wasn’t much due to the drought situation that the area had been experiencing all summer. So, I considered myself fortunate to see the dam under the best circumstances. There were orange floats near the beginning of the overflow spillway that almost looked like pumpkins. For its expanse, optimal viewing conditions, and overall appearance, I rate Pittsfield Mill Dam at 5.0. I plan to return with friends to see the light display at night.
