  3. 5.0 Barnes & Noble Bookstore & Café (1 review)
    - ONE OF THE BEST BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSTORES
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
Barnes & Noble Bookstore & Café image
This Barnes & Noble Bookstore & Café is fairly large. It’s one of the anchor stores of The Crossings at Fox Run. As expected, there are many different sections for various categories of books. It has a very big Newsstand section with several large racks. The sizable area up back is for the younger set. It has toys and games in addition to books. That area was quite busy when I was there. This store has what Barnes & Noble calls an Expanded Vinyl section. It has several bins of vinyl records. And, during my most-recent visit, a young man was browsing those bins. I browsed the music and scanned the movies. There was still a good selection of holiday greeting cards marked down 50% off. The inside Book Annex had a lot books marked down - many up to 75% off and some only $5.00. I visited the café briefly. I didn’t see anything to tempt me. I rate this Barnes & Noble at 5.0 and recommend a visit. It’s one of best. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..

    - Peace apart from Portsmouth
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge image
So near NH's major port city. A true oasis. Took both trails. The longer took you by old stone walls, pasture trees, small pond and ferns a plenty. Spotted signs of pileated woodpecker. Saw downy woodpecker, warbler, beaver, cormorant. Ate lunch at an overlook of great bay with spotting scope. The shorter to Peverly Pond was all on a boardwalk. Peverly pond had a host of croaking frogs and territorial chipmunks. A great way to,spend an 85 degree day. See more..
  6. 4.0 The Crossings (2 reviews)
    - MALL WITH GREAT RESTAURANTS & MOVIE THEATERS + GOOD STORES
    Spent 2-3 hours Shopping Malls
    The Crossings image
The Crossings mall is conveniently located just off the Spaulding Turnpike /NH Route 16/US Route 4. It is adjacent to The Mall at Fox Run which is accessed from nearby Woodbury Avenue or the connector roadway in the rear of the stores at The Crossings.. The biggest draw for vacationers would be the five restaurants and Regal Stadium 15 & RPX Cinemas with over a dozen movies playing on any given date. Restaurants include LongHorn Steakhouse, IHOP Restaurant, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Cold Stone Creamery, and McDonald’s. LongHorn Steakhouse and Chipotle Mexican Grill are the best; however, even the IHOP and McDonald’s are above average. One can get good food in any of the restaurants here. Retail stores include Trader Joe’s, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Michaels, Dicks Sporting Goods, Five Below, Jared Galleria of Jewelry, Kitchen & Company, Staples, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and ULTA Beauty. A Pet Smart store is under construction. And, when one is done shopping here, there is a connector road past the cinemas that leads to The Mall at Fox Run for even more tax-free shopping. On my most-recent visit, I ate at LongHorn Steakhouse and had a fabulous filet mignon dinner. i rate the mall and its attractions at 4.0. I recommend a visit to The Crossings rain or shine. 8. 4.0 Holy Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church (1 review)
    - MID-CENTURY MODERN CHURCH WITH A LARGE TRINITY WINDOW
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
Holy Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church image
The congregation of Holy Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church was established over 60 years ago. The church building is a good example of Mid-Century Modern architecture. I find the most interesting parts of it are the dome-shaped sanctuary and the Trinity Window in the back of the sanctuary near the altar. I think these features are best viewed as one approaches the Woodbury Avenue exit northbound on the Spaulding Turnpike. An up-close view is best seen from the part of the church driveway that runs parallel to the highway. In the afternoon, the sun shines on that side of the building. At that time, one can get the full effect of the three interlocking circles and the colored glass of the Trinity Window. And, on my most-recent visit, the sun hit that window just right to showcase it. The church also has an interesting spire. I rate the aesthetics of Holy Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church at 4.50. 9. 4.0 Fye - For Your Entertainment (1 review)
    - WELL-STOCKED FYE STORE
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
Fye - For Your Entertainment image
Spending an afternoon at the Mall at Fox Run, I stopped by FYE - For Your Entertainment after shopping several other nearby stores. At the time of my visit, there was a Buy One, Get One 50% Off Sale on used DVD movies. Otherwise, this was pretty much a standard FYE store with plenty of selections in vinyl, music CD’s, games, small plush critters and characters. I rate my experience at 4.0 and can recommend a visit. 10. 4.0 Fox Run Mugshots (1 review)
    - CUSTOM EMBROIDERY, PRINTING, PATCHES,& MORE
Saturday: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
    Fox Run Mugshots image
Shopping at the Mall at Fox Run, I stopped by Fox Run Mugshots to see what that was all about. I thought it would likely do printing of one’s photo on a coffee mug. But, the store was more about custom printing and embroidery on clothing and hats. In browsing the store, I came upon iron-on/sew-on patches. One small bin had several different kinds of butterfly patches. I got a blue one that reminded me a bit of a Karner Blue Butterfly. It was $4.00. The gal in charge of the store was very nice. I rate my visit to Fox Run Mugshots at 4.25 and can recommend a visit. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..
  11. 4.0 Langdon Pubic Library (1 review)
    - HISTORIC RED BRICK LIBRARY BUILDING IN A PICTURESQUE SETTING
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Dedicated in 1893, Langdon Pubic Library is one of the Town of Newington’s older historic buildings located in the town’s former center along with other buildings dating as far back at 1712. Woodbury Langdon donated some 2,000 books as an incentive to build it. When traveling through Newington, I frequently make the two-mile detour off the Spaulding Turnpike to see the library, the 1712 Newington Town Church, and some other nearby historic buildings. The stop here is a step back in time to the late Victorian Era. As a historian, I appreciate the preservation of this and the other nearby historic buildings. From time to time, the library has shown films by producer-director Louis de Rochemont, a famous two-time Academy Award-winner who lived in Newington. He was also well-known for his "March of Time" newsreels shown in movie theaters. For its scenic setting and architecture, I rate the Newington Town Church at 4.0 and recommend a visit to see it and the nearby buildings. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. 12. 4.0 Go! Calendars & Games (1 review)
    - SEASONAL GO! GAMES & TOYS STORE
    Speciality & Gift Shops
    Go! Calendars & Games image
Shopping at the Mall at Fox Run, as I walked the hall to get to Mugshots, I came to Go! Calendars & Games next door. I was surprised to see the store open. I shopped the store. There was a wide variety of calendars, stuffed animals, games and toys. At the checkout, I mentioned to the manager that a Google search had showed the store was listed as permanently closed. He planned to contact corporate to get hat fixed. The store closed only seasonally around the time school started up – late August or early September. I rate my experience at 4.25 and can recommend stopping by in season which runs sometime in January to August/September. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..
  13. 4.0 Newington Town Church (1 review)
    - HISTORIC CLASSIC WHITE NEW ENGLAND CHURCH
Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
    Newington Town Church image
Historically, the present-day Newington Town Church, United Church of Christ was known as the Meeting House and later as the Newington Congregational Church. Built in 1712, it is the oldest church in the United States to be continuously operated by Congregationalists. The original style was Federal. During renovations in 1838, the two-section bell tower with pinnacles, sometimes called finials, was added. These reflect the Greek Revival style. Newington Town Church is a classic pretty white New England church. When traveling through Newington, I frequently make the two-mile detour off the Spaulding Turnpike to see this church and some other nearby buildings in the town’s former center. The stop here is a step back in time to the Colonial and Early American periods which are my primary interests in history. The 1838 additions give me insight into construction styles that some of my ancestors saw in the years following their 1832 arrival in New England. As a historian, I appreciate the preservation work that goes into maintaining this and the other buildings. In 2012, I celebrated the church’s 300th anniversary with the congregation. For its scenic setting and classic architecture, I rate the Newington Town Church at 4.50 and recommend a visit to see it and the surrounding buildings. 14. 4.0 Yankee Candle (1 review)
    - WELL-STOCKED YANKEE CANDLE SHOP
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
    Yankee Candle image
Shopping in a wing of The Mall at Fox Run that I rarely visit, I came upon Yankee Candle near the Locally Handmade store. I stopped in to see what was new. The manager was putting out new stock. The store was already well-stocked with scented candles, candleholders, accessories, and related merchandise. One brand I was unfamiliar with was the WoodWick. It was another Newell brand along with Yankee Candle. Browsing soy candles, I found a few of interest. The Lemon Lavender was nice. It had fruity notes that blended in with the lemon and lavender. I also liked the Balsam & Cedar which smelled like a forest. It had the scent of juniper berry along with the balsam and cedar wood scents. I left a decision for what scent to get for another visit. Although considerably smaller than the flagship Yankee Candle Village Store in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, it was a nice store for an outpost. While visiting this store, I did speak with the manager. She was very nice and helpful. I rate this Yankee Candle store at 4.25 and can recommend a visit. 15. 4.0 Newington Old Town Hall (1 review)
    - HISTORIC TOWN HALL THAT HOUSED A SCHOOL
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
The red brick Old Town Hall was built during the Victorian Era in 1872. It also contained a school for all 8 grades. It is adjacent to the Langdon Public Library. When traveling through Newington, I frequently make the two-mile detour off the Spaulding Turnpike to see the 1712 Newington Town Church, this Old Town Hall, the library, and some other nearby historic buildings. Visiting the cluster of buildings here is a step back in time. As a historian, I appreciate the preservation of this and the other nearby historic buildings. On my most recent visit, I met a town employee who told me that his father attended school at the Old Town Hall and that he attended the Stone School across the street until sometime in the 1950’s after Pease Air Force Base came in, and the noise from the military jets forced the town to build a new school further away. For its historic value, setting, and well-kept condition, I rate the Old Town Hall at 4.25 and recommend a visit to this and the other nearby historic buildings. 16. 3.5 The Mall at Fox Run (27 reviews)
    - Not many stores
Spent More than 3 hours Shopping Malls
The Mall at Fox Run image
The Mall at Fox Run is a one level enclosed regional shopping mall conveniently located just outside of Portsmouth, NH at the intersection of Spaulding Turnpike (US 4 and US 16) and Fox Run Rd. 17. 3.0 Regal Fox Run Stadium 15 (30 reviews)
    - They make you pick your seats!
    Saturday: 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM Spent 2-3 hours Theatre & Performances
Regal Fox Run Stadium 15 image
We were visiting from out of state and decided an evening movie with the kids might be nice. The theater was extremely crowded- get there early to get seats. Many shows were sold out and this theater makes you pick your seats prior to going in. The chairs were pretty fancy - but not worth the expense. An evening out for 4 ...80$. I say rent a redbox for 2$ and make some popcorn at home. See more..
  18. 2.5 Joybis Toys (2 reviews)
    - WELL-STOCKED LOCALLY-OWNED TOY STORE
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
    Joybis Toys image
Heading in the Food Court entrance at The Mall at Fox Run, I happened upon JoyBis Toys. It was between Buffalo Wild Wings and the fast food stalls. Although relatively small, the store was well-stocked with a wide variety of toys, games, and plush stuffed animals. Plus, I saw two 12-volt battery operated cars; one was a Batmobile. There were a lot of Ty brand stuffed plush animals --- one cuter than the other. The small pink poodles were precious and adorable. From what I saw, I’d say that JoyBis Toys has something for everyone. I liked all the things that I saw, so I’ll say that I think owner has good taste. I rate JoyBis Toys at 4.50 and highly recommend a visit. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..
