  13. 4.5 Museum of the Mountain West (389 reviews)
    - Old World Charm!
    History Museums
Museum of the Mountain West image
To say that this is a museum would be an understatement - This is actually a magical place that would transport you back in time. Each building has a story and our guide Steve did a wonderful job of not only telling us the history behind them but also how they were acquired and some of them have actually featured in the movies. The place is full of interesting artifacts, most of them donated by the founder Richard Fike, and we had the pleasure of meeting him as well during our visit and learning about the effort he has put in to build the museum . The sophistication behind some of the musical instruments and household items from more than 100 years ago at display is simply amazing and am sure kids who have been born with iPhone in their hands can learn a lot about the things that they would never see otherwise. It does take time to admire the collection at display and the time is well spent. See more..

  15. 4.5 Montrose Botanic Gardens (45 reviews)
    - Peaceful stroll
    Gardens
    Montrose Botanic Gardens image
My husband and I stopped in here before we could check-in to our Vrbo just to kill time. We were the only ones here and took our time enjoying all the plants, flowers, and cacti. This is a nice little botanic garden that is free of charge and more like a "park." Plants, flowers and trees are labeled with names for identification. There are several statues, fountains, art pieces, benches and sitting areas. It is very peaceful and well-kept. I was surprised at how many flowers were still in bloom this late in the year. It was also nice seeing so many butterflies, bees and pollinators! It was the perfect place for a relaxing stroll. See more..

  21. 4.5 Montrose Farmers' Market (3 reviews)
    - Asset to our community!
    Farmers Markets
The Montrose Farmers' Market is such a great asset to our community! Great selection of fruits and vegetables year round, high quality crafts and locally made products, and even plants so you can grow some food of your own! The farmers and merchants are all very friendly and knowledgable and are always happy to chat with you. During the summer market, there is often live music to set the mood, and plenty of activities for children. We also love that the market is dog friendly- it's a great place to walk the dogs on a Saturday morning and allow them to socialize. Straw Hat Farm has a new store adjacent to the market that is really great. They added a wonderful outdoor seating area (shaded) to the market, and their breakfast burritos are worth the trip in itself. Oh and there is ample bicycle parking :) See more..
  22. 4.0 Two Rascals Brewing Co. (32 reviews)
    - Good beer
    Monday: 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Bars & Clubs
    Two Rascals Brewing Co. image
Came for drinks after hitting up Colorado Boy in June. They don't serve food other than pub food (popcorn) but there is a food truck out back. Two Rascals doesn't have flights per se but each 4oz pour is around $1-3 depending on the beer. Created my own flight with 4 pours (regular stout ale, amber ale, pink guava blonde sour ale, and dark cherry Russian imperial stout). The imperial stout was the absolute BEST! Cost for all 4, 4oz pours was about $7.50. Not much in terms of atmosphere, but the beer was good. See more..
  23. 4.0 Horsefly Brewing Company (27 reviews)
    - Good food and service at locally-owned place
    Monday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Bars & Clubs
    Horsefly Brewing Company image
Stopped by after literally riding by on our motorcycles. We try hard to avoid chains. Why travel if you’re going to eat like you would if ya you’d stay home?try Obviously they have a large beer selection, but didn’t try because we don’t drink and ride. Lots of outdoor seating. At the recommendation of enour server I had their signature 50/50 burger, half ground beef, half bacon. It was great. Not the healthiest thing on the menu, but every once in a while it’s probably fine. My friend’s fish tacos were excellent as well, See more..

  26. 4.0 Duncan Trailhead (2 reviews)
    - Nice -- if you can get there
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Duncan Trailhead image
This trail offers nice views of the Gunnison River below, but you need a four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle to get there, and it is not a good trail to hike on in the summer because there is no shade. It is best in the spring when the cactus flowers are in bloom. It is a nice trail for novice hikers. See more..
  27. 3.5 Cascade Bicycles (4 reviews)
    - Helpful local bike shop
    Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails
    Cascade Bicycles image
Took our bikes in to be serviced. turn around was really quick and did a great job. It was a positive experience. Didn't try to get every dime out of me which is good. Can draw from their experience as they are very helpful. Ordered a new seat post and arrived early and a very good price. Thanks again See more..
  28. 3.0 The Boardwalk Shops (1 review)
    - A Decent Number of Shops...Antiques and Collectibles
    Spent 1-2 hours Antique Shops
    The Boardwalk Shops image
This complex is very decent with a number of shops with old Western stuff and artifacts, prints and such. Also large display of wood carvings outside. There is also some junk around. It is worth the stop to see if they have something on your list. We bought one Western print for a fair price. Parking is right in front off the highway 550. Most shops closed on Sunday. See more..
  29. 2.5 Flat Top-Peach Valley Recreation Area (2 reviews)
    - Adobe badlands look desolate, but are a great place for outdoor activity
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
The "dobies" just east and north of Montrose are barren-looking hills which can sometimes be hot, dusty, and windy, but they can also be a great place for family fun. The 9700 acres are part of the 64,000 acre Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area adjacent to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The unique recreation area has open areas where motorcycle and ATV riders and mountain bikers (plus hikers and horseback riders) can ride cross country, along with miles of singletrack and primitive dirt roads through more restricted areas. I'd recommend picking up a trail system map at the Montrose BLM office or print one online. On a recent late winter visit, we found the Peach Valley site pleasantly warm, dry and free of snow, a perfect place to enjoy playing with a radio control Monster truck, dogs, and kids. Next time we'll bring kites! There are picnic tables and restrooms available, but be sure to bring water. See more..
