  1. 5.0 Chesler Park Loop Trail (69 reviews)
    - Incredible Hike in Middle of Needles District of Canyonlands
    Hiking Trails
    Chesler Park Loop Trail image
This hike is 11 miles. We did it in March 2017 on an unseasonably warm day (low 80s). It is quie incredible with a 3 mile hike to the Chester Loop which is 5 miles then you return on the 3 mile hike you entered on. The trailhead starts at Elelphant Hill which is easy to get to, just about 3 miles of well graded gravel road off the pave park road. It is fairly strenuous due to it's length but taking your time with plenty of water and snacks and you'll be fine. The trail is well worn so easy to follow and there are cairns on the slick rock sections to guide you. This hike includes the Joint Trail which is a narrow (2 to 3 foot) crack in the rock that you go through. It was a refreshing shaded section that provided some relief from the sun. My wife and I loved this hike. We are in our mid 60s and in ffairly good shape so we were able to accomplish this hike in 7.5 hours. We were sore the next day but nothing that stopped from continue more hiking in the following days. There is lots of good info online for this hike so check that out if you are planning this hike. 6. 4.5 Bears Ears National Monument (17 reviews)
    - Pretty cool even at a distance. See it soon!
Canyons • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Bears Ears National Monument image
This is a very new National Monument only established in 2016. Unfortunately evil powers are working to destroy this as it was reduced by 85% in 2017. While I did not get close by, it was easily visible from Natural Bridges. The history and Indian legend behind this and similar natural lands are as impressive as the actual landscape. This is worth a few minutes to observe and read the legend. The ride from Natural Bridges is just under an hour and can be tied into Canyonlands National Park as well though Canyonlands is a bit over two hours away. See more..

The Big 4 Tractor is an important piece of Monticello Utah's farming history. In addition to the mechanized revolution that forever changed farming in America beginning in the 1850's with the development of new machines making the back breaking work of farming easier. Built in 1912, the Big 4 was initially designed for road work. Over time it was transferred between various dry farms in the area. See more..

  14. 3.0 Monticello Pool (1 review)
    - Indoor Pool and Water Park

This is an impressive upgrade to what Monticello had previously. A nice pool with a simple slide. A kiddie play area/splash zone as well. Water was on the cool side which felt refreshing after being out in the heat. See more..
  15. 2.5 Monticello Lake (2 reviews)
    - Size matters
    Bodies of Water
Monticello Lake is a loftily named alpine pond in a medow along the paved "shortcut" over the mountain from Monticello to the Needles district. I expected more from something listed as a destination on all the Forest Service highway signs. Maybe it was worth a stop years ago when vehicles needed radiator water after chugging up the pass, but there is so much else in the area to see and do it barely rates a glance as you pass by.
