- 5.0 Samadhi Hermitage (1 review)
-Silent Meditation Retreat at the Samadhi Hermitage in Picturesque Madrid, New Mexico.
Spent More than 3 hours Caverns & Caves
I have been learning about meditation since I visited Bangkok over the Summer. I had about a week off and wanted to attend a retreat to take my practice to a deeper level. I found the Samadhi Hermitage on a website dedicated to finding meditation retreats. The Samadhi Hermitage is nestled in beautiful Madrid, New Mexico. Madrid has about 500 people, according to a resident there. The Samadhi Hermitage offers two "caves" for a personal meditation retreat. One cave is for a longer term stay, and the other (where I stayed called the Samadhi Cave) is for shorter term stays. The person who runs the hermitage is a master meditator, having completed multiple years in caves and studied for decades in India. I was able to completely absorb into my meditation and into the study of the meditation technique I was using. I stayed three days and meditated in complete silence interrupted only by my one daily meal, a coffee break, sleep, listening to the discourses, using the restroom and some discussions with the meditation master there. I was offered and accepted discourses made available by the meditation master onsite as well he was willing to discuss my goals and give me some ideals for techniques. The cave is on a donation basis and you can pay what you like. The mountains are beautiful that surround and the place is filled with amazing books related to meditation, Eastern spirituality and the people who practice that. I think it could also be amazing if you just wanted to drop in and get some guidance on meditation, life or meet a great asset (in the meditation master residing there). If you go or want to go and have any questions, please ask and I will try and get to them. See more..

- 4.5 Shugarman's Little Chocolate Shop (83 reviews)
-Little Chocolate Shop....Huge Chocolate Flavor
Speciality & Gift Shops
It was recommended that we drive NM-14 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. We listened, and we pleased to stumble upon eclectic Madrid..more pleasing we wandered into the Chocolate Shop. Was immediately greeted and offered a taste of green chili, lime and ginger chocolate. Reminded me of chocolate 'bark'. I had recently sampled chocolate in Old Town Albuquerque so wasn't expecting much. For me, this chocolate was over the top...unique in flavors, creamy, left me wanting to sample more. Left with several flavors. Throughout our road three week road trip, in the evenings, I delighted in this chocolate with a glass red wine. Don't miss out if you enjoy chocolate. See more..

I stopped in the little burg of Madrid while driving the Turquoise Trail. The classic car parked nearby drew me in, but I stayed for the delights inside. - 4.5 Metallo Gallery (2 reviews)
-A place to see art that shows a mastery of one's craft
Art Galleries
I had intended just to pop in while walking around town. But when I saw the work that was being produced, I was really taken back by the skill with which mental is transformed into art. I had a chance to visit briefly with the artist and discuss how he got his "ten Thousand hours" of perfecting his skill. I did not buy anything, out of my price range, but it is the real thing and and piece I saw would be a valuable addition to anyones collection of fine art . See more..

- 4.0 Madrid Ghost Town (39 reviews)
-Interesting town
Spent 2-3 hours Ghost Towns
We recently spent a couple of days in Madrid and found the town to be quite interesting. By day, the town is filled with folks visiting the many art galleries and shops. There is a cute coffee shop which serves an excellent cold brew. We enjoyed meeting some of the locals when we popped out in the early evening for a beverage and food. The locals are friendly, we dug the quirky vibe. When we visited, the two restaurants in town that are open in the evening closed early, around 7-8 pm. In our opinion a stop in Madrid is recommended for those visiting the area. See more..

We got many samples shown and a primer on what to look for when seeking quality and authenticity They also had Navajo, Tibetan, Oaxacan, Afghanistan’s, Packastani and more Pearl travelled to buy but some are now in conflict areas so she relies on lifelong contacts. She has had this store for 27 years after having been a professional ballerina We took up too much of her time most likely but we learned much. Best stop in this little tourist/artist Mecca See more..

Galleries of Fine and Fiber Arts This is the oldest, and largest gallery on the Turquoise Trail. We now represent over 100 fine artists and 50 fiber artists. The gallery was started by Mel and Diana Johnson, who met as students at the Art Institute of Chicago. Mel later taught figure drawing there, and architectural drawing at Texas Tech University. Diana has had her one of a kind dresses carried at high end department stores around the country. Today, the gallery is run by four generations of the Johnsons family. See more..
