- 4.5 Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge (26 reviews)
-A Stunning Part of Oregon, Ripe for Exploration!
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Just took a quick 2 day trip from Bend to Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge; it was awesome to explore this remote part of the state! We made reservations to stay near Plush at Hart Mountain Cabin (hartmountaincabin.com) for one night and I highly recommend it. It's the perfect "home base" and they welcome dogs. It was clean and cozy, and the owners even gave us tips on where to go and how to get there. We drove the bumpy gravel roads throughout the refuge, searching for wildlife. Definitely bring binoculars. We saw 60+ antelope, several hawks, and a few cute chipmunks. Pack your own snacks cause Plush (25+ miles from the refuge) is the only place for food. We enjoyed a soak in the hot springs and a short hike. Not many designated hiking trails; it's more suited to scenic driving. Enjoy! See more..

History Museums
I love this little museum, probably partly because of a display of a replica of famous historic Round Barn located in French Glen, Oregon. My late grandfather built this replica, so it is very special to me. There are many other wonderful historic displays to enjoy. Even if you don't have local roots, it's very interesting to see the vintage clothing, furniture, Native American memorabilia and lots of other interesting things of days gone by. The rooms are preserved and set up as they were when this museum was a home, the living room, dining room, kitchen & bedrooms. Lots of western memorabilia honoring a way of life that still thrives today in this agricultural community. This museum is definitely worth a look! See more..

Sunday: Speciality & Gift Shops
Dropped by on recent pass through town. Fora remote, small community this bike and outdoor recreational equipment had a marvelous inventory. Proprietor is knowledgeable and can help one discover more of this less often visited part of the state. Prices were in line with those in more populated centers. And remember there is no sales tax in Oregon! See more..
