    Double Mountain Ranch image
Great mid summer evening ride in the Columbia River gorge to dry creek falls! My husband and I had a great private ride this summer with the owner on her lovely horses! My horse Cinder a Missouri fox trot breed has a lovely smooth gait! Very comfy for trail riding. We didn’t pass one person on the PCT Riding to and from the falls! We had the Forrest all to ourselves! The Horses are very well trained and responsive, and well cared for. As we are experienced riders, and she let up ride ahead. We rode with them also last summer 2019 on our anniversary for the mountain panorama ride which is also another very good ride! The nice thing about this outfitter is that they will match you To the appropriate horse based on your riding experience and Taylor the ride to your ability which means they can offer something for riders of all levels. 8. 5.0 Punchbowl Falls (11 reviews)
    - Worth the 2 mile hike
Spent More than 3 hours Waterfalls
    Punchbowl Falls image
Not sure if this is open after the 2017 fire but if it is it is worth the 2 mile hike back to it. The trail can be scary at times with a huge drop off on one side and a rock cliff on the other of a 2 foot wide rock trail on the side of the cliff at times. The hike back to it and the falls is beautiful. The hike is a moderate hike and not for the faint of heart or physically challenged. Bring some aqua shoes so you can go out in the water to see the falls and get some pics. This was one of my bucket list things to do after seeing a pic of Punchbowl falls on Facebook. So glad I got to see this. We saw this in the fall of 2015. See more..

    Mitchell Point Trail image
On our drive from San Francisco to Spokane, my husband, little dog, and I stopped to rest and take in the views and a hike along the trail. This is a gorgeous area that is well worth taking the time to stop and enjoy this natural wonder. I’ve traveled to many places around the world for both leisure and business. Neither my husband nor I have been in this area before. It is so beautiful that we’re planning a vacation - a relaxing road trip, stopping to spend time all along the way of the Columbia River Gorge. 10. 4.5 Horsetail Falls- Columbia River Gorge (392 reviews)
    - Great Falls to see

Horsetail Falls- Columbia River Gorge image
Reading the "terrible" reviews, I have to disagree. The fact access was closed once due to a fire is not a reason to give it a 1 for all time. I will concede that it was busy during the winter and I can see how summer weekends will make it super busy and maybe long wait times, but on the other hand, if they were crappy, there would not be wait times. I liked these falls more than Multnomah, and are surprised they are half the flow volume as I thought Horsetail to be more impressive. I liked them both. See more..

  19. 4.5 Tom McCall Nature Preserve (56 reviews)
    - Two great hikes
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Tom McCall Nature Preserve image
We spent the morning at the Nature Preserve hiking. First hike was the McCall Trail which was about three miles total - in and out path. It traveled up a large hill with some elevation gain and provided spectacular views the whole way up. After we crossed the street to do the more leisurely Rowena's Crest which again provided spectacular views of the area and of the wild flowers. Both trails were peaceful and quiet. See more..
  20. 4.5 Tamanawas Falls Trail (53 reviews)
    - A beautiful unique waterfall on a moderate difficult hike
    Spent 1-2 hours Waterfalls
    Tamanawas Falls Trail image
This is a moderate hike. It follows the river for almost the entire hike and most is in the shade. The hike is 2 miles in and 2 miles out. The trail is well maintained and on my hike I came across people of all ages, and many with young children and/or dogs. The hike is almost entirely uphill to the falls and there is an area near the falls which involves traveling through a rock slide. Lots of opportunities to twist an ankle so need to pay attention. The falls are very nice and rather unique with a very large mist that at times obscures the view of the falls. Bring water. A nice place to have a picnic lunch. Parking is limited. We were here on a Friday mid May and the lot filled up pretty early. Not sure what people do if the lot is full as no overflow parking seen but there is a campground not too far away. I was not in the shape I thought I was and took me 1.5 hours to the falls and 1 hour back. Definitely worth it! See more..

Kite boarders, wind surfers, stand-up paddlers, and boats...welcome to Hood River. The river park at the Port of Hood River is a beautiful green space that runs along the river. There are concession stands. boat launches, picnic areas and beaches (with restrooms). There is a fee for parking. You will need to dodge the strings of the kite boarders since this is the Kite Boarding Capital of the World (or at least the US). The water is choppy due the winds that whip through the Gorge here but it doesn't seem to stop the fun. Stand-up paddle boards are available for rent and you can take lessons to kite board. Even if you don't do any of the water sports it is still fun to watch the colorful kites. If you are walking toward the river, turn around and you will get a beautiful view of Mt. Hood.
