   This was a pleasant and educational cruise. The captain was very knowledgeable and more than willing to answer questions and his crewman was always at the ready for the captain’s and passengers needs. I would definitely recommend going on a beautiful fall day like we did with great foliage views. It was only about 2 total hours including boarding and learning about the operation of the locks was well worth the reasonable fee for the trip. See more..

   I stopped by last week to conduct some research for a new book. Both Sue and Caryn (staff historians) were SO NICE and helpful.    If your tripping to Central NY, a must for adventure and education is Herkimer Diamond Mines. There are many facets to a great time for adults and young adults although I did see some tots also. A person can rent a sledge hammer and experience knocking out these beautiful crystals. A genuine treat was Gordon, a college student with endless knowledge about geology and fossils. You can purchase these diamonds at the gift shop and the food at the snack bar was delicious and reasonably priced. All staff members know their subject are super friendly.    With the Erie Canal cruises closed for season, and tour buses non-existent due to Covid, I had the entire store to myself. Impressive & inviting store with unique local gifts & souvenirs of all kinds. Nicely merchandised! Clean restrooms & welcoming adjoining restaurant with full bar & view overlooking canal. A peaceful, enjoyable break from driving NY Thruway. Handicapped accessible. Easy drive up parking. Friendly, helpful staff.
