Things to do & places to visit in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, United States

Grand Teton National Park cover image
Situated near famed Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park's crown jewels include the Cathedral Group of peaks and the majestic Snake River. The dramatic spires that inspired Ansel Adams rise straight from valley floors, providing awe-inducing views. See them at their most compelling from the comparatively gentle Jenny Lake and Hermitage Point's trails or the switchbacks of Death Canyon. Jackson Lake is favored for windsurfing and sailing. Colter Bay Visitor Center contains an Indian Arts Museum.

    Scenic Drives
    42-mile Scenic Loop Drive image
If you don't feel like hiking any of the trails in Grand Teton NP, the 42 mile Scenic Loop Drive is the best option. We started the drive at 7 am on a Sunday (8/30) at Mormon Row for the best lighting for photography. We made stops at Schwabacher Landing, Cunningham Cabin, Oxbow Bend, Jackson Lake Dam, Signal Mountain and various turnout points. We took our time at each place and finished in about 4 hours. 5. 5.0 Schwabacher Landing (260 reviews)
    - Simply incredible
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Schwabacher Landing image
As you can see from my photos it depends on the kind of weather you have. But this spot, made famous by many photographers, is enough out of the way that most motorists go right on by. Even so, it will get a little busy on summer days. Arrive early or late to enjoy the solitude. Walk north until you see the beaver lodge. It is one of my favourite spots. See more..
  6. 5.0 Taggart Lake (225 reviews)
    - Taggart Lake
    Hiking Trails
    Taggart Lake image
Start at the Taggart Lake Trailhead. Easy hike and you will pass a waterfall, over a small mountain through the forest to a truly beautiful lake! We saw a grizzly and a large deer, heard a moose calling.. The key to this hike is to do it early in the morning to avoid the crowds and have a better chance of seeing some wildlife. If you decide to do the beaver lake trail back to the parking lot it is more strenuous (moderately). I actually liked this trail better than Jenny Lake but still highly recommend doing the Jenny Lake hike too! See more..

Perfect hike for the end of the day. Definitely longer getting to the overlook than coming down. Unbelievably gorgeous views at the top. Nice people and got a good family picture. Highly recommend for easy to get to from Teton Village and some elevation but not too hard. Really enjoyed. See more..
  11. 5.0 Delta Lake Trail (13 reviews)
    - A Challenge but the View is Heavenly
    Hiking Trails
    Delta Lake Trail image
Definitely a challenging 9.5 mile total hike, but worth the prize (view) at the end. Don’t take kids unless they are in shape and very agile. I would recommend at least mid-teen and above. The boulder field at the end (uphill) is no laughing matter and I feel I’m fairly athletic (runner, tennis player, hiker). Altitude also can affect you (I started to get nauseated near the end). My biggest advice if you want to attempt this is to take plenty of breaks... it’s not a race to the lake. Also, bring plenty of water and snacks. Budget between 6-7 hours (includes about an hour at the lake) to take in the sights and take photos like the one attached. May want to bring bear spray just in case. See more..

Nice place to start before visiting the National Parks in the area. We enjoyed the displays they had inside, especially the one showing the topography of the mountains in the area. Helped get us oriented. We purchased a Passport Book and took it to all the parks and monuments we visited during our 2-week visit out west and got a stamp for each of the places we visited. Mormon Row Historic District image

  22. 4.5 String Lake (132 reviews)
    - Swimmin' Hole!
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • National Parks • Hiking Trails
    String Lake image
I feel like String Lake is one of the better kept secrets of Grand Teton, and it's possibly because it's parking and access is limited, so make sure to arrive early. The lake is 10ft deep at it's deepest point, so it is absolutely perfect for swimming in crystal clear water that you can see all the way to the bottom. Do be aware of wildlife in the area, we say a moose, a bear and a snake while here. There are lots of people so no real need to be worried about potential danger, but just be aware and make sure your kids are too. The beach access here is very limited, so like I said arrive early and claim your spot. Also, make sure to bring a kayak or paddle-board to fully enjoy String. It's a magical lake and one that we could've spent longer at if we had the time. I highly recommend it. See more..

  26. 4.5 Chapel of the Sacred Heart (108 reviews)
    - Beautiful Chapel with fantastic stain glass.
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Chapel of the Sacred Heart image
Disadvantage of Covid this beautiful Chapel was closed so we were just able to peek into the windows. Little did we know until peeking in is that there was a beautiful stain glass of a Sacred Heart in the middle of the glass. Gorgeous, wish we could have gone in or better yet to attend a service. Maybe next adventure to the Grand Tetons to see this Grand Chapel. See more..
  27. 4.5 Snake River (107 reviews)

    Bodies of Water
    Snake River image

  28. 4.5 Hidden Falls (104 reviews)
    - Beautiful Morning
    Spent 1-2 hours Waterfalls
    Hidden Falls image
We got a semi early start and decided to hike the Jenny Lake Loop to Hidden Falls before the ferry opened (opened at 10am, decent line already at 9:15am). Our 6yr old had no problems with the trail and we arrived at the trail/dock junction with the second ferry. Hidden Falls was beautiful, even a little snow along the way. We also tackled Inspiration Point. We decided to take the ferry back (very little wait) and it was easy to pay for the one way when we returned. Great family hike! See more..
  29. 4.5 Jackson Lake Overlook (45 reviews)
    - Working at conquering the power of water.
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Scenic Walking Areas
    Jackson Lake Overlook image
You may ask yourself why a dam here??? The purpose of the dam is to provide water from the snake river for water storage for irrigation in the Snake River basin to the state of Idaho. Jackson Lake is a natural lake whose levels are raised an extra 39 feet due to the dam. You can walk across the dam and see how the construction of the dam was done. Below the dam you can also see the fisherman trying the luck of the fishing pole and the people floating the river for pleasure. Take some time and walk around on the short trails to enjoy this dam. See more..
  30. 4.5 Murie Centre (27 reviews)
    - Take the free tour if you can
Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Murie Centre image
Beautiful spot with a compelling conservation story that will be appreciated by all who value wilderness. We happened to arrive just as a free guided tour was starting. Highly suggest the tour, as it allows you to enter the Murie home, which is still furnished and is full of interesting images, books, and so much history. The guide was excellent—knowledgeable and well-spoken. See more..
