This is a superb place to take children, especially when Pat Scheuer, the director, is around. He can make the mundane seem fascinating, the ordinary seem extraordinary. Under his tutelage, a child will learn to see the natural world with greater depth and intensity. But it isn't only intended for children. Adults can find an array of local fauna to absorb their attention, too. It is a wonderful resource for relaxation, for learning, for delving into the unassuming riches of the natural world just next door. See more..

In the 17th century, Lenape Indians traveled the land we now call Franklin Lakes. They made winter camp in the “Clove” near Buttermilk Falls and fished in Micharagrape Pond ( now Franklin Lake). is about 100 yards along the yellow trail where it intersects with the orange trail. The name comes from the words for a cloven hoof, because of the steep sides of the ravine at that point. See more..

The park features two ponds, two baseball fields, a lighted handball court, tennis courts, basketball courts, a recreation building and walking/hiking paths. The trail network winds through much of the park, and provides a good overlook from the top of a hill at the crest of a trail. The park itself is being developed further, although plans are to keep it as natural as possible. It is a very pleasant place to visit, and we had a great picnic there last month. See more..
