    - Awesome Horse Riding Trails
Spent 2-3 hours Horseback Riding Tours
    Painted Horse Ranch image
I was Celebrated my Birthday with Wolf and his crew at the ranch- two fun filled days of trail riding through acres of untouched woods, corn fields, and a running stream. The weather couldn't have been better and the company was awesome! Wolf really takes excellent care of his horses. They are so gentle and lovable, I felt like I was riding a big Dog lol My horse is named Ottawa, and what a good girl she is to ride! I really enjoyed the trail rides to see the leaves change smell the crisp air and admire the beautiful scenery/ I was totally relaxed and just LOVED my Birthday weekend I enquired and Leasing a horse is also available and I truly encourage anyone who loves riding to do this here at PHR . It is something I am definitely going to be signing up for real soon! See more..

Was in the area and stopped by for a trail ride. Guide was excellent, horses were well cared for. Three levels of rides available, please do not lie about your riding experience. Beginner level is not just a ride in a open field, it involves trails that do require some level of ability. Had a great time and will stop in again next time in the area. See more..
  5. 5.0 Rock Presbyterian Church (1 review)
    - 300 year old parish solid as a rock
Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
    Rock Presbyterian Church image
Rock Church has been serving the spiritual needs (and architectural interests) of Cecil County for around three centuries (1720). The huge granite outcropping or rock nearly blocks the church from view if one is coming from the east on Telegraph Road. The church went through several names in the early days from New Erection on the branches of Elk River, then Elk River Church, Great Elk, and Upper Elk. Since 1793, it has been called Rock, probably for both religious and geological reasons. The basic structure has been modified a few times but kept its distinctive appearance. These changes resulted in a Victorian Gothic influenced appearance. On the property, a white church hall sits atop the hill overlooking the church, and a small chapel and office lies across Rock Church Road between the road and Little Elk Creek. One can surmise a historical connection with the colinial era village on the other side of the creek. Rock Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It's great to see living history tight in rural Cecil County. See more..

  7. 4.5 Fairhill Scottish Games (13 reviews)
    - Family oriented
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Fairhill Scottish Games image
We've been going to these annual games in Fair Hill, MD for many years. It's not like a Renaissance Fair or a carnival. You can sit in the stands and watch the hammer throw, sheaf toss, etc. Many of the competitors return year after year, so it's fun to cheer on your favorite. You can walk around and watch the pipers play in front of judges, listen to live entertainment, or watch sheep get herded by dogs. It's pretty much the same vendors and events every year, so some of my family are bored with it and don't go back anymore. Even though there are beer trucks, it's a calm atmosphere, family oriented. Some kids may find it boring as there isn't a lot for them to do. See more..

    - Family Tradition
    Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Pine Valley Christmas Trees image
We go to Pine Valley Trees each year to pick out our family Christmas Tree. We have had great experiences each year. IF there is ever a problem, Pine Valley makes it right! We enjoy spending quality family time together picking out our tree. We also love that Pine Valley will deliver our tree right to our doorstep on the weekend of our choosing before Christmas! Another great thing is that they have an area for the kids to run around and play there too. They have photo-ops and even FREE visits with Santa on special days. Inside the market, they have a small gift shop with ornaments and various tree related products (stands, etc). On opening tag day, the church next doorr even serves up a pancakes breakfast. Overall, we have had excellent experiences with Pine Valley. It has become family tradition to head out before daybreak to go tag our tree before the holidays. I would recommend IF you live in the area. See more..
  13. 4.5 Fair Hill State Natural Resources (2 reviews)
    - The Crown Jewel of Cecil County
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Fair Hill State Natural Resources image
This is the biggest park in Cecil County, covering more than 5000 acres and featuring some of the best mountain biking on the East Coast. You can ride/ hike for hours here, and see very few people. In addition to seeing beautiful fields, woods, creeks, and glens, there are beautiful ruins scattered throughout the park. You can rides horses here, it is primarily an equestrian park. There are places which will take you into the park on horseback. If visiting, be aware that this is primarily an equestrian park-hikers and bikers are welcome, but the horses come first. Stand aside when you see them, and ask before passing them. See more..

EIT is one of the few affordable indoor tennis facilities in the area. The staff here are friendly and will answer all your questions. I like how they always have a tennis match on the TV in the waiting area. My kids have been taking tennis lessons here for almost two years. We all think Coach Matt is a great instructor. I would highly recommend coming to EIT to use the courts or take lessons. See more..

  16. 4.0 Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge (27 reviews)
    - Well maintained in a scenic setting
    Spent < 1 hour Bridges
    Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge image
After driving over many small and winding roads from Elkton, we did not expect to see the Gilpin Covered Bridge on a busy highway. Actually the bridge is set just off the highway and not open to traffic, which would likely destroy the well maintained classic structure in short notice. There is a good pull off that could hold maybe a dozen cars on the south side of the barn-red bridge. The bridge was originally built in 1860 and restored about 100 years later. One can walk through and see the basic wood beams and construction and look out the open windows at the pond below. See more..

  18. 3.5 Gilpin's Falls (11 reviews)
    - Trail/path not visible
    Waterfalls
    Gilpin's Falls image
Gilpin Falls received a lot of attention on county websites. One expected there to be a trail or path to enable one to reach the falls easily. The historical marker clearly identified the location. On reaching the place, we saw a beautiful small pond formed by a dam and well cut grass on both sides of the pond. Unfortunately on walking down either side, we were met with dense grasses and no clear path on to the falls area. One could see and hear the upper part of the stream below the dam and some of the water rushing over rocks where the falls would begin. Maybe it would be better to go again in the winter when the grasses have died down and one could try to walk along the stream bank without risking snakes or slipping where there was no visible walkway. 21. 3.5 Brantwood Regional Park (2 reviews)
    - Walking Trail
    Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Brantwood Regional Park image
We loaded up our bikes one day and took them over to Brantwood Park to ride around the paved path. Park was pretty empty except for a few families with children on the playground. We did come across one runner and a group of walkers on the path. No one seemed to mind that we had our bikes there. I did not see any signs that said "no bikes", so we figured it was ok. We also took a walk around the fishing pond side one day. We walked past the playground and up towards the fishing pond. As we neared the pond on the main walking trail, we encountered a large brown SNAKE sunbathing in the grass. I'm not sure what kind of snake it was as I did NOT hang around to find out. We walked across the way to the fishing pond and thought we would walk around over there. However, we were disappointed to see that there was not much of a walking trail on that side. The trail goes around the pond and dead-ends at a fence beside The Lotus. We had to turn around and walk back out the same path we came in on. There was no connecting trail to the parking lot. Overall, this is a nice small park. The playground is nice. The walking trail is nice, although there are not a lot of shade trees. There are some small ponds or creeks, but nothing big. The water at times smells stagnant. There are tiny fish that can been seen from the footbridges. I would recommend if looking for an outdoor area to walk or take the kids to the playground. I would just beware there are SNAKES in the area. See more..

  23. 3.0 Elkton Golf and Batting Center (8 reviews)
    - Driving range rover
    Game & Entertainment Centers
Elkton Golf and Batting Center image
I'll disclaim by saying I've only used the driving range and find it to be a good value and the location is exceptionally convenient. The surrounding nature and clear sky view is excellent. I'm grateful to have the option to be in the shade too. I've seen baby deer in the backfield, frogs, and birds. But if you're not just there for the scenery like me, you may have more to say. They could do a better job with the litter, a lot of the balls are worn and split and the tees are old. I'm sure if they invested in updating the place, the business would follow to make up for it. 24. 3.0 Immaculate Conception Church (1 review)
    - Christmas Bazaar 2021
    Saturday: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Churches & Cathedrals
    Immaculate Conception Church image
We went to Immaculate Conception Church's 47th Annual Christmas Bazaar this December. They had a large selection of crafting vendors throughout the main hall in addition to being throughout several rooms in the old school rooms. Downstairs in the basement/cafeteria area they had pictures with Santa for a fee and crafts that also appeared to have small fees associated with them. There was also a pay breakfast and a bake sales table. Upstairs in the library they had a book sale and some children's game. Here the kids could play games and win points to get FREE books. If you didn't want to play the games, you could buy the books for mere pocket change. I believe most ranged from 25 cents to $1. Overall, this was a nice little Christmas craft fair. The breakfast smelled good, but we had already eaten so we skipped it. Not sure IF you could JUST visit with Santa OR take a picture with your own camera for no charge, but I wish I had asked. I didn't like that there was a posted fee for seeing Santa at the craft fair. Even at the mall you can see Santa for no fee. See more..
  25. 3.0 Crossroads Bible Church (1 review)
    - Friendsgiving Family Fall Fun Fest 2021
    Saturday: Churches & Cathedrals
    Crossroads Bible Church image
We went to Crossroads Bible Church to attend the Friendsgiving Family Fall Fun Fest event they were hosting directly following mass one weekend. It was a trunk or treat type event but the candy was stationed mostly at tables around the inside of the church's school gymnasium. They also had inflatables for the children to play on outside. There were NO adults or volunteer staff monitoring the inflatables so it was a free for all. Kids were not taking turns or social distancing. I was afraid someone was going to get hurt. My kids did NOT even want to play on the inflatables since it was such chaos. Inside the gymnasium they also had a FREE lunch that included cornbread, chili, hot dogs, drinks and various desserts. Overall, I thought the Friendsgiving event was a nice idea. It is a nice way for the community to come together and also for those new to the community to get a peek at this church community. The food served there was all good. Most of the people running the trunk or treat tables and banquet tables were friendly. However, it was VERY crowded in the gymnasium, which made me a little uncomfortable during the pandemic. I also felt that an adult should have been in charge of monitoring the inflatables so that children took turns and did not get hurt on the slides. See more..
  26. 2.5 West Meadow Park (13 reviews)
    - We had a good time, but not worth a repeat visit.
    Parks
    West Meadow Park image
My two young boys had fun on the rock climbing walls and playground. We walked over to the bridge and they enjoyed tossing leaves and branches in to the water and watching them float down the creek. Not a super impressive park, but good for one visit. See more..
  27. 2.5 Meadow Park (2 reviews)
    - A Hidden Treasure
    Parks
    Meadow Park image
Most folks are familiar with "Meadow Park", but they are commonly referring to West Meadow Park, with the track and sports fields. East Meadow Park is the little looking park across Delaware Avenue. I say little looking because to fully enjoy it you must got to the back of the parking area and hike into the rest of it. That's where the fun begins. The area is teaming with wildlife. The settling ponds offers a lot of habitat for the animals. So any walks around the park will guarantee you will stir up something to watch. There is a huge expanse of area off to the NE that can be hiked however, it is vastly unimproved. That's great if you just want to get away into the woods for awhile. Since the city has made a few improvements to the area expect to see more traffic and visitors. That of course will mean more improvements coming down the way. It's a great little secluded wildlife area in the heart of town. Easy to get to. See more..
