My wife and I are here from Maryland and were very happy to go out for an hour in the kayaks from quiet waters. Saturday was beautiful sunny and warm. The waters of the Salmon river are clear and calm and just perfect for a nice day trip. Someday I will bring my own kayak from home but for now it’s so easy to rent from these friendly owners to get out on these wonderful waters. See more..

A great place to go with family or solo. The building looks small from the road but when you're inside you see that it stretches back through several connected buildings. Exhibits include Heinz Warneke's working model of the tympanum found over the door at the National Cathedral, large photos of the 1913 building of the East Haddam Swing Bridge, and Moodus Resorts. I love these off the road little historical sites. The schoolhouse was closed when we arrived but we still were able to see inside the windows. It is a beautiful spot, overlooking a church and cemetery on one side and the river on the other. Wished we had been more observant to the open times but none the less it was a fun little stop. Hale schoolhouse was the site Nathan Hale taught school before enlisting to fight for the Continental Army and spy against the British in the American Revolutionary War. Nathan Hale, the CT state hero is known for saying, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Even if you only have a few minutes to stop by after hours, I would recommend it. St. Stephen’s church is a lovely little church. Unfortunately I stopped off on midday on a Saturday and it wasn’t open. I would have loved to have a look inside. The outside is nice and quiet. My teenage daughter wanted to go ghost hunting,so we took a walk through the Devil's Hop Yard. As beautiful as the small falls were and old wooden bridge there were no ghosts in site that day. Maybe they only come out to play at night... It's a nice place for a picnic or a hike with the family. I am so glad we came back to check this winery out this summer! The wines were fantastic! I especially loved the new tasting with the Seasonal Wines! Pear, Apple-Raspberry, and Peach! Played Crumpin Fox last year and wanted to play the sister course. Played week after all heavy rain ended and was surprised how firm conditions were. Many outstanding holes and forced carries but great layout which is much more interesting that Wintonbury Hills.
