Things to do & places to visit in Dewey Beach, Delaware, United States

Dewey Beach cover image
Delaware's Dewey Beach is a spectacular sandbar community - on one side is Rehoboth bay, and on the other side there are the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Dewey Beach itself is a small town of less than 400 people, but it has become a popular tourist destination for anyone interested in water sports and beach vacations, and is the perfect spot for a relaxing family getaway. If you get tired of Dewey Beach, which is pretty much impossible, Cape May is only 30 miles down the road and Brandywine Zoo and the historic Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard are right around the corner.

Janis was very helpful answering our questions before booking a kayak for rental and delivery for the first time. Delivery was on time and appreciated the inclusion of well-fitting life jackets. Now that we have done this for the first time will now know for next time to request securing ropes and locks in the notes section. Would rent from them again. See more..
  2. 5.0 Sand Dollar Cruises (145 reviews)
    - Sunset Cruise
    Boat Tours
    Sand Dollar Cruises image
The sunset cruise with The Sand Dollar crew was a real treat! Booking online was easy, we didn’t have to deal with parking as we were staying nearby. There was about a foot of water we had to walk through to get to the boardwalk due to the tide. Wearing shorts and sandals is recommended. The crew was very willing to take photos and even offered water on board. They went the extra step with a wedding anniversary on board by playing their song, and we all took part in singing along with the couple who was dancing. It really felt like our own boat with new found friends! Thank you Sand Dollar crew! See more..

    Alley Oop image
Our 12 year old son got a private lesson from Exile skim boards-sponsored pro Timmy Vitella, a local with a national reputation. The booking process was smooth, and owner Jason was able to meet our scheduling needs to fit the lesson into our vacation with time for our son to benefit from it. Timmy came to our condo and arrived early. He is a great guy who gave a great lesson and connected very well with our son a d the other boys on the beach who ran up asking for pointers. Timmy went down later to talk to them after finishing g our son's lesson. We are very happy to have made this decision to get a lesson and to pick Alley Oop and Timmy to give it. Definitely recommend. See more..

  9. 4.5 Dewey Beach (551 reviews)
    - Really Empty
    Beaches
    Dewey Beach image
Sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, this quaint town is popular with the younger crowd and home to numerous excellent bars and brewpubs with live music and great food. In summer, look forward to activities like outdoor movie screenings and community bonfires in addition to jetski rentals and guided kayak excursions. The surf tends to be rough, but the beach is dog-friendly, and the small-town charm and relaxed vibe on offer during the quieter seasons draws couples and families from wide and far. The busier Rehoboth Beach is only a stone’s throw away. – Tripadvisor See more..

    - Our favorite local place

    Woody's Dewey Beach image
We love the atmosphere at Woody’s: Great food, always a game on TV and excellent service. We go there at least twice a month in the offseason, when parking spots are easy to find. We went with our neighbors, who ordered a cup of cream of crab soup, a crabcake and a French Dip sandwich. I ordered my favorite appetizer, which is a mix of Maryland and cream of crab soup. It was delicious as usual. My wife loves their soft shell crabs, and Woody’s is one of the few places we have been able to get soft shell crabs all winter long. I had the bbq salmon with asparagus and tater tots (hey, I think they are a little bit healthier than fries). We loved our meals as expected and the service was spot on. We highly recommend Woody's. We visited the East of Maui in Lewes, DE. Kayaking was made easy for us- We rented the Kayaks and East of Maui brought them to the beach. The Beach was across the road which was only a walking distance from the rental store. We rented for 6 hours and explored the ocean area. We saw dolphins and the beautiful lighthouse. When we were done we parked the Kayak and walked back to drop off paddle. It was so much FUN that we purchased a Kayak from East of Maui Lewes, DE. The employees were so helpful and full of great information. It is a day we will never forget- It was an Amazing Experience! See more..
