    Farms
    Glynwood image
Sometimes it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city so when I discovered Glynwood Farm offers tours, I decided to pay them a visit. Located 15 minutes from Main Street in Cold Spring, you can either take the Metro North and call a taxi, or you can make the scenic drive. The property is stunning! It honestly made me wish that I grew up on a farm. The tour guides and staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it was a delightfully, informative way to spend a few hours. I will return for more tours. See more..

  8. 4.5 Bannerman Castle (197 reviews)
    - Unique views of the Hudson
    Castles
    Bannerman Castle image
I took the boat ride tour on a cool day in June. The boat ride was lovely and the history of the castle was not what I expected, but definitely taught me a lot. I'd recommend this to folks who have lived in the area and never visited as well as people who are visiting the Hudson Valley. It's a very interesting piece of history and has uniquely gorgeous views of the Hudson River. If you are taking a group it was about $40 per head so keep that in mind for cost. And although we were allowed to eat on the boat you are not allowed to eat on the grounds, but you have to take everything you brought with you on the boat on the island. Pack minimally but make sure you have hydration. The terrain isn't even and it is steep, but there are stairs. If you have children or accessibility issues, keep that in mind before you decide to go. Lastly, they have movie nights on the island which sounds like a lot of fun! Especially in October during Halloween! See more..

  10. 4.5 Breakneck Ridge Loop (106 reviews)
    - Third time hiking always love this trail
Spent 2-3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Breakneck Ridge Loop image
This was the third time i did the breakneckrdge hike. All times we started later in the day around 3pm and was able to find parking no problem and all the crowds had already finished the hike. The first section of the hike is straight up and for us super fun. You have t have proper hiking shoes and be in descent shape and bring water. The views are phenomenal and this time there were lots of hawks drifting in the air sort of suspended and riding the air it was magical. The start of the hike can be a little strenuous but the end is a meandering path. Despite the naysayers saying it’s dangerous. it’s fine you do need to be careful but if you are aware and in pretty good shape you’ll do great. again this was our third time to hike this and we thoroughly enjoyed it every time. West Point Foundry Preserve image
Do the audio tour. Seriously. This place comes alive. If you're here for the history, it's truly fascinating and awe inspiring what took place at the foundry. The thousands of artisans and laborers; the civil war heritage; the fortunes won and lost; the labor and management stife; the cutting edge technology. It's truly a walk through the halls of US, NY, and Cold Spring history. Fun easy walk for families with interesting sights. Seriously though, audio tour on your phone. See more..

    - Great day trip from NYC
    State Parks
    Hudson Highlands State Park image
Well organized trail system with lots of easy, available parking. I took the easy Cornish Estate trail, which is about one mile in and one mile out. Mostly flat terrain, with a little uphill incline at the end. At the end are very cool ruins that make for good photos. There are more challenging trails. Near Beacon, NY, which is home to Bannerman Castle. Some quaint little shops in the nearby downtown. Could make a nice little day trip from NYC. See more..

    - Great
    Theatre & Performances
    Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival image
It wasn't one of Shakespeare's, but I really enjoyed "The Most Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington" I saw there recently. Thanks to Covid, I hadn't seen a live performance since Dec. of 2019, but the precautions taken by the HVSF made me comfortable attending this performance. Outdoors (under a tent), vaccine/masks required, socially distanced seating - safety done right! The whole experience was comfortable and fun. See more..

    Split Rock Books image
On a recent weekend visit we discovered this beautiful new gem right in the heart of Cold Spring. This is a particularly good time to visit this beautiful town right on the Hudson River about an hour a quarter north of New York. I love browsing it's eclectic shops. Imagine my surprise finding this new addition. A brand new books shop with an amazing collection of books. This is not your typical book store. I found books here that I have not seen in any other shop. Truly unusual books. I had to hold myself back but I bought several. They also have the same interesting collection in the children's section which occupies the back half of the store. I wish I had grandchildren so I could have bought some of these. I was here for well over an hour just browsing and the place was mobbed. It is run by a lovely young couple who could not be more helpful. This is sure to become a new cultural icon. This is definitely a place to stop in Cold Spring. See more..

    - Great views and less crowds on weekdays!
Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Mountains • Hiking Trails
    Bull Hill (Mt.Taurus) image
Best time to hike to avoid crowds is on a weekday. We did this and only saw a few people on the trail. Very tranquil and joyful! Depending where you start the loop there is either a gradual incline and then a gradual decline. A good workout when climbing up. Perfect picnic stop at the top for lunch. The views remind me a bit of Switzerland, the green hills and a pristine looking river/lake. After hiking, the town of Cold Spring has many good eats. We had to get ice cream and ate it overlooking a romantic lake with a gazebo. Perfect spot for romantic vibes! See more..

Recently I attended a wonderful coral concert led by Cat Guthrie. The Chapel is small and inviting with beautiful stain glass windows. And the members were welcoming to all who attended. See more..
