The Coeur d’Alene’s Old Mission State Park spotlights the oldest building in Idaho. The Mission of the Sacred Heart was constructed between 1850 and 1853 by Catholic missionaries and members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sacred Heart Mission and the Coeur d’Alene’s Old Mission State Park provide an educational experience not found anywhere else, giving visitors an opportunity to examine the dynamics and complexities between Jesuit missionaries and the tribal people among whom they settled in a beautiful park setting. Old Mission State Park is a place I have been wanting to stop at for many years, since one can see the Mission Church from I-90. Admission is $ 7 and the park has a very nice visitor center with restrooms and a very interesting movie about the Old Mission. The Parsonage is very well preserved and has lots of exhibits; the interpretive trail through the property is well laid out and the old church is beautiful; it is also the oldest building in Idaho. If you have an hour to spare, it's well worth it. See more..
