Run Wild Retreats are a fabulous way to explore trails in a part of the world you’ve always wanted to visit without having to plan out the details. All you have to do is show up-everything else is taken care of, from the routes to the lodging, meals and a spa experience. Participants included women of various ages and running abilities; one does not need to be an experienced runner to enjoy these destination trips. Most women arrived alone, so no need to bring a friend. The experience is very social in nature. Everyone was very welcoming and accepting of one another, and the retreat leader ensured everyone felt safe, included and enjoyed their experience. It was easy to see that the retreat was mindfully planned with much care taken to provide a memorable experience for every participant. See more..

    Shaboomee image
I never leave reviews but felt the need to this time. We didn’t even rent from Shane (timeline didn’t work for our day) but I want to commend him on an amazing focus on customer service and making sure we were well informed. Immediately after talking to me he sent me a personal text checking to make sure we had all the info needed and offering to extend pick/drop times to accommodate our tight window. He was very helpful on the phone giving me full instructions on how we rent online and how the equipment is packed so we knew what was going to be needed when get got to the reservoir. I will definitely seek out renting from Shane and Shaboomee on our next visit! See more..

  12. 5.0 Avalanche Creek Trail (3 reviews)
    - May 30th visit.
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Avalanche Creek Trail image
My daughter and I visited the late morning of May 30th. We found Avalanche Creek Rd with little trouble. We arrived from the South, but the description for directions to Avalanche Creek Rd is: 12.5 miles south of Carbondale, on Hwy 133. From the Hwy 133 intersection it is about a 2-3 mile drive to the parking lot at the end of the road, just past the campground. The drive is best with a higher clearance vehicle, and there is 1 stream crossing to make with your vehicle. At the parking lot there is a restroom. We only did the hike up to the Hell Roaring trail at the 2.5 mile mark. It was a wonderful hike. And for us it was not easy, but a good workout. I would like to return with more time to go further on this trail. See more..

Carbondale has an interesting collection of sculptures located around downtown. There is a formal event (Art Walk) every year where you can view the new art along with the artists. But, the visiting art sculptures and the permanent collection are both available to view all year round. We had a great time strolling around town looking at the art and stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. This would be a good activity for a family with children. See more..

    Thomas Lake Trail image
My friend and I did this trail as part of the Mount Sopris Trail. This trail was lovely and easy, listed as 7.8 miles out and back. It is well marked. When we went, there were a few people, the perfect amount really. (We went on to summit the first peak of Sopris, felt amazing, and then tragically got off the trail and came down the wrong way and had to have emergency services get us down, but that is the story of another trail.) 21. 3.5 Penny Hot Springs (47 reviews)
    - Only complaint is the people complaining
    Hot Springs & Geysers
    Penny Hot Springs image
The hot spring is au natural! Read into the history a little bit and I found out the locals actually wanted to do away with the hot springs at one point in time. Every time I've been it's been all smiles and solitude. It's an amazing place for a human to be and feel human. You're in the Alpine for goodness sakes, people WILL be nude. People will drink people will also smoke. I never thought it was a big deal. People are even there after dark. Treat this place well and there should be no negativity. Children, parents, everyone can enjoy this place, there are at least three built up rock pools, you may have to adjust the amount of river water but the pools are never cold. Pets love the hot springs and the river, and around September the waters are very calm. The only suggestion is that if you are older I would be extremely wary of the walk from the parking lot to the hot springs themselves. It can be treacherous as the path is just rocks varying in steepness. See more..
  22. 3.5 Ranch at Roaring Fork Golf Course (6 reviews)
    - Cute Little Par 3 Course
    Golf Courses
This is a small par 3 golf course right off of HIghway 82. This by no way fancy, but adds great challenges throughout the course. The course was very well maintained and not overly expensive. My wife is just starting to play golf and loved the aesthetics of the course balanced with the bunkers and water hazards that are strategically placed. If you are looking for a small course with a little bit of challenge, this is the way to go. See more..
