  2. 5.0 Big Meadow Brewing Co. (5 reviews)
    - Great micro brewery in the Sierras!
    Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
This was one of the highlights on our recent trip to Bridgeport, CA. The brewery is connected to a restaurant, Growlers right in the middle of town. There is plenty of room outside which is good light of the pandemic with no bar only service and no indoor dining allowed. The beers are good and worth the stop, the food is great with burgers and brats being our selection, the service is friendly and prompt. Doesn't get much better after a day of hiking, exploring and visiting the natural hot springs! Even in a torrential, high mountain thunderstorm complete with lightning and hail, this is a great place! See more..
  3. 5.0 Chemung Gold Mine (1 review)
    - A Peek At California's Past
    Mines
This is a place that is best asked about locally in Bridgeport before you go, It is best enjoyed in a 4X4 or4WD vehicle (*Not AWD!*), preferably with good ground clearance. Watch the trail for rocks that seem to attract oil pans and suspensions. Do not drive >25 MPH (40 km/h)! Turn off the A/C and roll your windows down. Enjoy the sagebrush and the silence. When you get to the mine site, be careful walking around, There's broken glass and nails, among other possible hazards. Do not take anything form the site. Like all California gold mine sites, Chemung is supposedly cursed for anyone who takes anything from it. I've also heard more and different stories of hauntings at Chemung than I have at any other. (Saturday nights are supposedly the worst (best?) for this. If you explore the ruins, so not go inside! The ruins are very unstable and could come down at any time. There are two level to this site which are worth very carefully exploring. However, do not go into any open addits! (Horizontal mine shafts!) They are extremely dangerous. Also, cellphone reception here can be dicey. Finally, be aware of idiots who rent 4X4's and do dumb things in them like speeding! I had a KIa Sportage coming down at my windshield a few years ago because a guy discovered that he could get it airborne! Despite my cautions, Chemung is a place worth seeing, if your vehicle and the weather allow you to go. See more..

  5. 4.5 Travertine Hot Spring (149 reviews)
    - Very unique place, not a destination, but a great little side-trip
    Hot Springs & Geysers
    Travertine Hot Spring image
We've been here a few times over the years. It is a very unique place, and really nice if you catch a time when it isn't crowded. The pools in total only have room for 10 people or so at a time. Best bet is a weekday, pitch a tent on BLM land overnight, so you can enjoy the springs under the stars, then get up early for sunrise, and before too many others start to trickle in. Be a good neighbor to other visitors and don't leave trash, make loud noise, or let your dog in the water. Seriously. This isn't a party spot, but a natural wonder and relaxing environment. Soaking without a suit is common here, and is functional more than anything. Who wants to have to pack up wet stuff after when you're on a roadtrip? Not a destination, but worth a short side-trip if it's on your way somewhere. The views across the valley are astounding. See more..
  6. 4.5 Mono County Museum (19 reviews)
    - Lots more info on Bodie1
Friday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Mono County Museum image
If possible, check out this wonderful museum before you tour Bodie. It closes early so call first if possible. Lots of antiques and photos. Great curator, she's everything! This museum kind of hides behind the Silver Maple Inn. There are signs for the park and museum, on the north side of the highway......look closely but make it a point to see it! See more..
  7. 4.5 Twin Lakes Resort (11 reviews)

  8. 4.5 Bodie Schoolhouse (7 reviews)
    - Frozen in time.
    Historic Sites
    Bodie Schoolhouse image
Other than the state park itself there’s 3 other buildings that will instantly catch your attention, this being one of them. There’s just something about schools back in the days, a bit eerie if I may. Looking in through the windows you see dusty chairs and desks with pencils and books as if they were left a year ago. Even calendar and maps of almost 100 years ago can be seen. The most eerie part of this building is when my friends and I tried taking pictures of the inside our phones froze down, one of us managed to get one picture in and it came out with a green light on one of the chairs, that freaked us out. So the only picture we got was outside the building. This is a great park to visit and this building might be a good spot for those of you paranormal fans out there, just have some respect. 9. 4.5 Bodie Firehouse (6 reviews)
    - All of Bodie is just freakin’ cool
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
    Bodie Firehouse image
The firehouse was definitely cool, but don’t miss out on the rest of this awesome mining ghost town! It was a great place to visit during Covid because it’s set up to be socially distanced and it feels safe. You’re always outside, and it’s a great way to experience history and get some exercise. Great family attraction. See more..

It took several years to get a church in the town of Bodie but this looks like a very nice church. It is still in excellent condition. See more..
  11. 4.5 Historic walk (5 reviews)
    - enjoyed it!
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    Historic walk image
Enjoyed walking down the main road there through the middle of town. Their parking for cars was different and people travelling through have obvious problems. All parking on the main road through town is where the driver has to back in diagonally. Odd. But walking through town was nice, level ground. In the summer around noon was hot though. We stopped into shops and restaurants to cool down. See more..
  12. 4.5 The Standard Mill (3 reviews)
    - Be Prepared!
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    The Standard Mill image
This tour can be strenuous. Be prepared for both Botie's elevation (almost 9,000' / 3 000 meters) and be well-hydrated. If you're not used to the altitude, I suggest not taking this tour until the afternoon. But, this a worthwhile part of visiting BOdie and should not be missed. See more..
  13. 4.5 Mono County Courthouse (2 reviews)
    - A Historic Masterpiece!
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
    Mono County Courthouse image
It's California's second oldest active courthouse. And, although many of Mono County's governmental functions have moved to more populous Mammoth, Bridgeport is still the county seat. And, this is still an active courthouse. Therefore, expect security. And, if court is in session, quiet is expected in the hallways. If you are there while court is in session and you are properly attired. (No shorts, jeans, t-shirts, flip-flops, etc), you are welcome to stay and witness the proceedings, unless it's a closed session.. I especially invite our visitors from other nations to come and see as except in some very exceptional circumstances, all U.S. court proceedings are open to the public. I also recommend being around at the top of the hour or at 30 minutes past to hear the bell tower at work. See more..
  14. 4.5 Old county jail (2 reviews)
    - Walk all around
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Make sure you walk all around the entire building. We saw at least 3 cells and comparing doors to the walls outside those cells appear to be very small. See more..
  15. 4.0 Buckeye Hot Spring (35 reviews)
    - Hot or Cold you are happy!
    Hot Springs & Geysers
    Buckeye Hot Spring image
After a day of traveling, we camped just down the road and were able to cool down and then warm back up in this hot springs / cold river therapy area. Like many others have said, this hot springs was busy on our visit, but there was still lots of parking area. The access down to the river could be too steep for some, I tried to snap a picture, but given there were people there choosing to dip naked, I didn't want to be snapping pictures over the edge rudely. But just know that the hillside is a loose dirt/rock steep climb. Once down to the water there were a couple of man-built dipping areas made by piling stones to capture the hot water and create a 3 foot or so deep pool. I had to sit to be comfortable in the heat. And just on the other side of the pool - freezing cold river water. It was very refreshing and a nice way to relax with a cool beverage and talk to some new friends! See more..

  17. 4.0 Bridgeport Reservoir (8 reviews)
    - Fun Day Fishing
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Bridgeport Reservoir image
We spent a day here fishing over July, 2020. Great fishing location, beautiful scenery, and time with family. The brown trout here are large - we could see a school making the rounds by the shoreline where we were fishing. In other words, we got skunked but we had a great time! A quick note - see pictures - there are a lot of turn outs to use to fish from the shoreline. The one we used put us just south of a small "inlet" (bay?). Getting down wasn't a problem but the dirt turn out is steep and getting out proved difficult. Just a heads up if you decide to use this one. See more..

The astuute student of geography will only call this a canyon. For our eyes, it is bushes, shrubs, vegetation. The views are average. Do not come here thinking the great views are here. See more..
  24. 3.0 Mack Canyon (1 review)
    - Non è l'unico canyon..on the orad
    Valleys
See more..
