  1. 5.0 Broad Reach Sailing (43 reviews)
    - A Spirit-filled Morning.

    Broad Reach Sailing image
I had the privilege of participating in Sunrise Boat Church this morning with Captains Abby, Bob and Shawn. Such a thoughtful group of people and a very experienced and courteous host. I am inexperienced in how to get on and off a boat but I had nothing to fear, these friends are experts in making their guests feel comfortable. The dock is well lit, the parking is very inexpensive and the dock well lit and welcoming, even at 4:00 a.m. We sailed out into Biddeford Pool for a thoughtful and spirit-filled message to the backdrop of the rising sun. Rev. Abby is an amazing and thoughtful pastor with a message that was just what my soul needed to hear. Upon returning to the dock, I felt compelled to just sit and contemplate the beautiful morning and the message I heard while listening to sounds of the harbor waking up to greet a new day. If you want a unique worship experience, you must try Sunrise Boat Church with Broad Reach Sailing and Maine Tuna Fishing (Miss Megan II). See more..

    - Love Love Love this a Theatre!
    Theaters
    Biddeford City Theater image
We attend a play once or twice a year at this theatre. Our first time, we were shocked! In the quiet, empty city center of Biddeford, who would have know there’s this amazing theatre! It’s the Best and the performances are sensational! The performers are local people but you’d think they were from Broadway (which we visit several times a yr). If you haven’t experienced a play here, you must!! See more..

  6. 5.0 Nibblesford Cheese Shop (3 reviews)
    - Artisanal cheese and so much more!
    Speciality & Gift Shops
    Nibblesford Cheese Shop image
Nibblesford has a nice selection of locally-crafted artisanal cheeses, a small but well-curated selection of beer, wine, and cider, and fresh bread from the fantastic Boulangerie Bakery in Kennebunk. They also prepare cheese and charcuterie boards and offer two kinds of fresh grilled cheese sandwiches, a classic and a fancier one. I had the classic with two kinds of cheese, and it was delicious. I also chose a 1/4 pound each of four cheeses to take home -- brie, cow's milk, goat cheese, and cheddar. They have gourmet crackers, chocolate bars, jams, etc. -- even t-shirts with their logo. The two owners (who are brothers) are great. This is a wonderful addition to downtown Biddeford and a place that I'll be returning to often. See more..
  7. 5.0 One Blue Sky Mural (1 review)
    - This mural has an interesting story.
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
    One Blue Sky Mural image
I've driven by this eye-catching mural hundreds of times since moving to the Saco/Biddeford area and finally found out what it means. The boy is making a phonecall to a little girl in Slemani, Iraq (where the corresponding mural actually is). The fence symbolizes the barriers between each country and the fence opening represents communication. The project was commissioned by Boston's Good Works Foundation to "encourage cross-country bridge-building among youths to foster empathy and friendship". You can find out more about it in AtlasObscura. See more..
  8. 5.0 Lucky Pigeon Brewing Co. (1 review)
    - Craft beer that tastes good AND is good for you!
    Breweries
    Lucky Pigeon Brewing Co. image
Lucky Pigeon is known as Maine's first dedicated gluten-free brewery. Its name comes from two of the founders, who share the last name of Pigeon (in case you're wondering). I got a flight of their American stout (Stage Island), their Kay'Lee Irish red ale, and their brown ale Little Brown Job. They were all great. Their spacious but cozy tasting room is an attractive mix of industrial and historic -- lots of red brick, wood floor, high ceilings, nice decor, and stunning large windows. The seating includes comfortable booths and two bars, one of which faces the brewing tanks. Friendly service, cool merchandise, no food but you can bring your own in. This is a nice addition to Biddeford's other breweries. See more..
  9. 5.0 River Walk Trail (1 review)
    - Unusual Urban Trail Across a Post-industrial Landscape
    Hiking Trails
This one-mile (1.6 km), well-marked urban trail led from the Saco Amtrak Station to Biddeford’s Mechanics Park. Surfaces were concrete and asphalt over easy grades. It afforded views of the historic lower falls of the Saco River, which it crossed. It traversed a post-industrial landscape of repurposed Pepperell Mill and the Saco Island Mills. Interpretive displays explained local history. Maps aided wayfinding. I liked all that I found here; I disliked nothing. See more..
  10. 5.0 Rabelais Inc. (1 review)
    - cook book store
    Antique Shops
hands down the best used and rare cook books store ever. I'm including London, New York, San Francisco and New Orleans here. Very well organized, truly a phenomenal selection. Not just books in English. The owner is very generous with sharing his hard-earned knowledge and freely allowed me to browse. I only opened older books that I was interested in buying - Too often, over the years, I see people damage old books. Some books here are correctly priced in the hundreds of dollars. I would strongly recommend asking him if it looks fragile. (His prices are very correct even reasonable.) My wife and I bought three books but I discovered others that I will buy at a later date. You cannot do that on Amazon. There are great cook books that are now off the radar because they are a few years old or don't have photos. See more..

    Stone Fort Distillery image
Stopped by to sample their whiskey and vodka and had a few cocktails, the whiskey sour and the strawberry basil martini. Both were excellent! It's a small place, but comfortable and welcoming, with friendly owners and patrons. The mill building will be completely renovated in a few years, at which time Stone Fort Distillery will expand. Several locals know about this place and are regulars. See more..

    Fortunes Rocks Beach image
Beautiful, sunny and cold afternoon at the beach an hour and a half before low tide. Easy parking by the rock protected road. Maybe 8 people on the beach this time of year/day. Hunting for sea glass. Walked maybe a third of the beach. Warmer weather would definitely make for an all day stay. See more..

I got a flight of the Convergent Evolution saison, the fruited Charms and Hexes, the Pepperell pilsner, and the Aglow (stout with cocoa and peppermint), and they were all great. They then gave me a sample of their cold brew Jolly Woodsman coffee stout made with espresso from Speckled Ax coffee in Portland that was fantastic. Nice atmosphere, great service. See more..

What a charming setting for a late September wedding. It even accommodated the small chapel front row flower girl meltdown so we could make a quick exit to the limo so the wedding could be uninterrupted by whispers of "I need to go pee!" From the flower girls and " can I have your I-pad " from the ring bearer . Wedding vows continued and mine craft soothed the restless ring bearer. The flower girls were lest restless on the outside of this beautiful spot See more..

This is a cute little park at the Biddeford end of the bridge that connects Biddeford and Saco. Its location is great because it's just a few yards from several good restaurants and you can bring takeout and enjoy it on one of the benches or picnic tables. It has good views of the Saco River and the Biddeford mills as well as a gazebo, a bike rack, a few parking spaces, and a small workout station. Summertime concerts are also held here. See more..

    Mulligans - Biddeford image
This is just a great, friendly pub. Great food, amazing wait staff and many, many beers on draft and in bottles. Our waiter "Birch, like the tree" sat down with us and explained what he would and would not order. I followed his direct example and ordered the Mulligan's Club. Instead of turkey, it had fresh chicken. Wow. Just fantastic. The rest of my group ordered fish and chips and said they were great. Go here. Eat here. Ask for Birch. See more..

    - Fabulous, Fun New Gift Shop

    Trillium image
Trillium just opened a couple of months ago, and I’ve already made several visits – and I never come out empty-handed. The eye appeal of this shop is off the charts. There is an amazing array of creative, unique items, strikingly displayed, and at reasonable prices. Trillium stocks an excellent variety of greeting cards, art, jewelry, purses, scarves, women’s clothing, candles and soaps, ceramics, glassware, baby items, and much more (I LOVE the carved wooden walking sticks). Many are treasures I’ve never seen anyplace else. And a number of them are creations of the ladies who own the shop, who are very friendly and welcoming. The store has a classy but relaxed atmosphere. Trillium is the perfect place to find a special gift for anyone on your list, including yourself. See more..

  24. 4.0 Blaze Brewing Company (3 reviews)
    - Why go to Portland?
    Breweries
    Blaze Brewing Company image
Blaze Brewing replaced the former Dirigo Brewery that was here a few years back. I got a flight of the Brunchside raspberry/cranberry sour, the Irish dry stout Sir Beefy (named after the owner's dog), and the Backshore sour (blood orange and passion fruit). They were all great. Nice ambiance in a renovated brick mill, and the view of the Saco river and falls is great. They have wood-fired pizza in addition to other tempting items on their menu, and their selection of tap beers was impressive. See more..
  25. 4.0 Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center (2 reviews)
    - Lots of materials for new residents/tourists
Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
Stopped in to get some brochures and maps of the Biddeford/Saco area. The gentleman in charge was very gracious and informative and suggested places to visit; also helped me choose travel guides for the area. I left with dozens of pamphlets, guides, tourist guides and maps. Great place to get area information whether you're a tourist or a new resident. See more..
  26. 4.0 Sacred Profane Brewery And Tankpub (1 review)
    - Known as the first tankpub in North America.
Monday: 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
Sacred Profane Brewery And Tankpub image
So, they only make two beers: dark and light lager. They also offer a mix of the two that are layered one on top of the other. I had the mix, and it was very good. I also had the schnitzel, which was also very good. The owner and staff were welcoming, and the copper tanks that you see as you enter the place are pretty cool. See more..
  27. 4.0 5 Points Shopping Center (1 review)
    - MID-SIZED STRIP MALL WITH A CINEMA, 4 RESTAURANTS & SEVERAL STORES
    Spent 1-2 hours Shopping Malls
The 5 Points Shopping Center is located on Maine Route 111. There is plenty of free parking in the sizeable parking lot. It’s easy to drive past this shopping center because most of it - mainly the stores - is below street level and nearly hidden from view. The 99 Restaurant and Tropical Café are more at street level and might catch a passerby’s eye. You have to kind of know it’s there. The chief attractions for travelers there are Smitty's Cinema which serves comfort food in addition to showing movies, a smoothie bar named Tropical Café and three restaurants: All Day Breakfast, 99 Restaurant, and Tin Tin Buffet which serves Chinese, Japanese, and American food. Planet Fitness health club, Olympia Sports, Big Lots, a Goodwill store, and some other businesses are also there. On my most-recent visit, I stopped by Big Lots and Goodwill to shop for housewares. I got two coffee mugs in perfect condition for $2.00 at Goodwill. On recent previous visits, I’ve shopped Olympia Sports which always seems to have a sale going on; and, I’ve had breakfast at the All Day Breakfast which serves very good food for breakfast and lunch. Smitty’s is still on my “To Do” List. Tin Tin Buffet is on the “Maybe” List. My overall rating of 5 Points Shopping Center is 4.0 as it has several different activities in one location. I recommend stopping by for a meal or shopping. And, Smitty’s Cinema would be a perfect rainy afternoon activity around 3:00 PM. Movies usually start running about 3:30 PM. 28. 3.5 Shevenell Park (2 reviews)
    - Ignore the pigeons!
    Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Shevenell Park image
This is a nice little spot to take a break from shopping or walking in downtown Biddeford, especially on a hot summer day when there's usually a cool breeze blowing through the alleyway. It's beween two brick buildings and has a few wrought-iron tables and chairs. Further down there's an area with more modern tables and chairs that are often used by the nearby Palace Diner customers who get takeout meals. Here's something pretty interesting -- the park is dedicated to Israel Shevenell, who was one of the first Franco-American immigrants to Biddeford and actually walked there from Canada in 1845 when he was 19 years old (see photo). That was one heck of a hike. The placard also notes the rules of the park, which include 'pick up after yourself' and 'ignore the pigeons'. See more..
  29. 3.5 Rotary Park (2 reviews)
    - It's a locals thing.
    Spent 2-3 hours Parks
    Rotary Park image
This probably isn't something tourists would be interested in, with all the pristine beaches and lakes around, but it's a nice city park. The beach off the Saco River is okay but nothing special, and right now they can't find lifeguards, so there's that. Otherwise, there are a lot of activities to do in the 72-acre park -- athletic fields, walking trails, dog and skate parks, two playgrounds, boat launch, disc golf, sand volleyball, and a picnic grove. The park's landscaping could use a little beautification or TLC, though. See more..
