We recently took our grandson to the Belleville Eckert’s to pick strawberries on a sunny Friday morning and had the most wonderful time! He was so excited to ride the tractor-pulled wagon to the strawberry field, which was full of beautiful bright red strawberries! The strawberries are the tastiest and sweetest of any strawberries I have ever eaten. After we finished, the wagon took us back to where we paid for our strawberries. Everyone was so friendly. After we put our strawberries in the car, we decided to eat lunch at the restaurant.....everything we had was delicious. There’s also a little outdoor cafe area with tables where you can purchase ice cream cones, etc , and a cute indoor market area that we always love visiting. It was a fun experience and we will definitely return. We can’t wait for peach and apple picking season! See more..
  2. 4.5 National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows (238 reviews)
    - Great place to reflect and get more peaceful
    Religious Sites

This is a deceptively big place. We ended up spending 3 hours here. We first visited the visitor center; watched the movie on the background and got a map of where to go. I recommend doing this first. We drove to the stations of the cross and got out and walked.. I recommend walking it; all stations have audio. Was very peaceful; and got me feeling more serene. We did go then to the main shrine; at the bottom of the hill with many seats. We visited the chapel around the back; which is very well maintained. Directly across from the Main Shrine is The Millennium Spire - which was built to commemorate the Third Millennium. It stands at 85' tall and is made of stainless steel. Then we went to an area with bells and a pond. Finally, we got back in the car and went to The Lourdes Grotto. The Grotto is actually very near the entrance, but we saved it for the end of the visit. Things were extremely quiet and peaceful on the day we visited. See more..

    Skyview Drive-In image
Stopped by just to take some pictures from the outside. One of the owners showed up to meet someone for a meeting and greeted us at the gate. Told us to drive around the gate and go on in. She answered questions, gave us advice on where to stay if we were in town for the night and gave us her business card so she could leave us some passes at the gate. Talk about perfect timing. We unfortunately didn't plan time for a overnight stop there but one day maybe. See more..

    Braeutigam Orchards image
Right up the road from a Certain Commercialized Farm is Braeutigam's - a hidden gem! We got to pet goats and pigs, pick out cute pumpkins, sample freshly pressed cider, and wander the orchards. Locals are on the money when they tell you to try the apple cider slushies and donuts! If you like Jr. Frosty-sized treats, get the small slushie. Perfectly sized. You can use cards on the farm, but you'll pay a little extra. Do yourself a favor and get $20-$40 cash to spend there instead. Between the excellent products and true family feel, we'll sure be back to Braeutigam. See more..

Scott Field Heritage Air Park image
This park is outdoors and has just the planes, no visitor building or other facilities. But, the planes are right there in the open for you to look, touch, walk around and generally get that up close and personal look that many places don't have if the displays are roped off, or have "do not touch" signs. The park looks quite recent and all the planes are in good condition. The park is right outside the gate to Scott Air Force Base, so you don't have to enter the base to get to it. There is plenty of free parking and there is no admission charge either - in fact there is no attendant at all. It is a particularly nice display if you are of an age when these planes were part of your life as a member of the military. See more..

My daughter and I stopped in here when we had some extra time on our hands. It's not a huge space, but big enough. We enjoyed both the exhibits by Margaret Keller and Terri Shay, but our favorite was the Humans of STL (and SWIC) exhibit. It was very eye-opening! There's plenty of parking and no charge for entry.
