   Not a walking trail, more of a self guided driving trail. Scalped by Indians? Yes, that happened here! Athol has a rich history and although now struggles, was was a booming town during the industrial revolution until the Great Hurricane of 1938 demolished the town with widespread damage and flooding, Unfortunately it seems Athol as been unable to rise up to it's former glory. Often under-rated, it is a nature lovers paradise and filled with history. The history trail takes you through several sections of town and while some of the sites are no longer there or houses are built upon the sites, it is a scenic and enjoyable ride. Perfect for a fall foliage trip or summer cruise and while your there, visit the downtown businesses, town beaches and local crafters. Lots of hidden gems here! See more..

   This park is at the junction of the Millers and Tully Rivers. There are trails through meadows and wetlands. The people that created this park have chosen to leave the landscape as found, instead of bulldozing it, and creating some Olmsted vision of what a bucolic landscape should look like. The result is that there are a lot of native species and ecosystems in the park, right in the center of Athol. This park is located at the Main St. Bridge. There is parking at the trail head.    Lots of hills, very clean porta pottie at parking area, lots to explore. We did a loop that took us 2 hours and we walked 4 1/2 miles. There are maps at the parking area that you can take. We will definitely be going back in the spring. See more..

   I have driven by this course hundreds of times as I passed it on route 2. I had no idea there was a golf course here until I happened to find it on Google. Just played it and it's a lot of fun. An interesting layout with some challenging holes. I will be back. It's worth noting that some of the fairways are in rough condition due to last year drought but overall the course is fun. Given how inexpensive it is to play I gave it five stars as it's a bargain. See more..
