I love visiting animal sanctuaries. It's one of my new favorite things to do, especially since I have a new camera and love to practice with wildlife photos. For Valentine's Day this year, my boyfriend took me to Animal Tracks. What an amazing experience this was! I had no idea it existed and it was only an hour from home. We did the monkey experience. They sat us at a long picnic table with bowls of food/fruit and brought the monkeys out to see us. They visited us, climbed all over us and interacted at their own pace. It was one my favorite animal interactions to date! I wish they were closer to my house so I could be a volunteer! If you have a free day, please check them out. The people that work there truly love these animals and it shows. I can't wait to go back for the full experience which is 3 hours long and includes many other animals at the sanctuary! See more..

    - Connecting to Your True Creative Self
    Lessons & Workshops
    Indigo Equine image
I just completed the “Connecting to Your True Creative Self” workshop at Indigo Equine this Saturday. I had no idea what to expect when I walked onto the ranch, and I ended up experiencing such an incredible day. 2020 has been a hard year for everyone, and this workshop was exactly what I needed to reground and get back in touch with myself and the world. I felt rejuvenated and refreshed afterwards, and highly recommend signing up for a workshop. We were a group of 3 women with our leader Andi, Horse Safety Manager Lisa, and photographer Jessica. Master Chef Ed provided morning coffee (strong the way I like it!) and a delicious lunch on an open veranda. We had a full day of visualization and creative exercises lead by Andi. Not having done many workshops in the past, I felt very comfortable and supported by Andi (and everyone else), and I got a lot out of each activity. These exercises were interspersed with on the ground interactions with the Indigo Equine herd (currently numbering at 7 horses, 1 steer and growing). It was incredible meeting all of the herd and interacting with them. They are a motley crew to be sure, and have a lot share with their human interlopers! The day was very full, but we never felt rushed, and it was very relaxing. The ranch is just gorgeous and secluded, but only a 40 minute drive for me from mid-city Los Angeles. It was a great escape, and I left the workshop with useful tools to lean into for my day to day life (not to mention the beautiful journal, water bottle, hand sanitizer and mask that Andi provided at the beginning of the workshop!). All the activities were outside and felt very Covid safe. Everyone was wearing masks and respectful of social distancing (except for the horses!). I highly recommend booking a workshop at Indigo Equine if you are feeling a little ragged from the stresses of today’s living. Take a day to let Andi and her team take care of you – you won’t regret it! See more..

    Vasquez Rocks Natural Area image
I visited on a Tuesday late morning and it was not crowded and perfect temperature. I parked to the right by the visitor center but i would go left next time to park right near the main rocks. Felt the Star Trek and Roswell vibe as I hiked around and climbed up some rocks. Nature, other worlds rock formations and film location for many shows and films. Free parking, has restrooms and picnic area too. See more..

Called in Sunday morning asking about tours. Told to stop by a little early to tag along with the 12pm tour for $15pp. The outside looked a bit industrial, and was quite hot (to be expected), but when we went in it was a wonderfully cool building with lots of little items for sale, almost like a boutique. They had a cooler with cheeses and meats for purchase if you decided to snack with your tasting and offered little crackers and chocolates during the tastings. The only white (chardonnay) they had was sold out so beware it may be an all red tasting. I'm a white drinker, but still enjoyed many of the reds I tasted. I'd estimate there were about 20 or so people on our tour. It started out with our informative guide giving each of us a tasting of the cab and then the zin. We walked out to the vines sipping on the zin while he gave us background on the winery's beginnings. We each were allowed to pull a few grapes and taste, as it was less than a month from harvest time, and then were walked in to the storage area. We each sampled two wines from the oak barrels that were "young" and still a few years from the bottling process. We were taken from there to the bottling area and then from there back to the front of the store, where the lovely lady behind the counter let us try a few other wines on the list that we did not try during the tour. We ended up buying a glass of the merlot reserve for $7 (love that their wines are just a flat $7 per glass!) and it was a hefty pour! Lounged around outside at the shaded tables sipping the wine and nibbling on crackers. There was a small pressure to sign up for the membership but nothing that was off-putting. Overall, for the same price we usually pay for a standard tasting, we got an extremely informative tour and a good 6-7 tastings! Everyone there was so friendly and I liked a lot of the wines. Such a relaxing way to spend a day. See more..
