    Discovery Museum image
Discovery Museum is a hands-on museum for families that blends science, nature, and play. The museum and its Discovery Woods accessible outdoor nature playscape and 550 sf treehouse blend the best of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) learning on a beautiful 4.5-acre campus abutting 180 acres of conservation land in Acton, MA, about 20 miles west of Boston. Originally founded in 1982 and expanded to two museums in 1987, the museum reopened in a single, 16,000sf accessible building after a complete renovation and expansion in early 2018. Hands-on, open-ended exhibits developed by professional educators inspire curiosity and exploration, providing a fun and engaging experience for children and adults to discover their world together. Acton Arboretum image
Acton arboretum is a hidden treasure in Acton. Since 2016, a new Chinese trail garden broke ground, designed by an award winning landscape designer and supported by Town of Acton and many volunteering groups. Most plantings were in this Spring even in the time of Pandemic. The center piece is a red foot bridge. Along the broad walk, there are many oriental species of trees and bushes. My favorites are Japanese maples, weeping cherry, and willow as well as tree peony. The garden is a true beauty for all seasons. See more..

  4. 4.5 Nara Park (3 reviews)
    - Walk After Brunch
    Parks
A nice sized park to take the doggy out for a walk. There’s paved walkways, which is nice especially for those with mobility issues. There’s a lake I believe that is open to the public during summer time to go swimming and all. When we went during early April, we didn’t have to pay for parking but I believe this changes with warmer weather. See more..
  5. 4.0 Acton Bowladrome & Arcade (2 reviews)
    - Fun Bowling
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Bowling Alleys
    Acton Bowladrome & Arcade image
This is a candlepin bowling alley, which is rather different than standard ten-pin bowling. The pins are thinner and you get three balls per frame--and they are about the size of a softball (but hard). My wife and I find it to be a lot of fun, as it takes strength out of play as a factor, which makes it more competitive for us. They have Cosmic Bowling on weekends, which has special glow in the dark lighting (which we did). We enjoy trying this variant of bowling when we are in New England. This is a decent place to go for a fun night out. See more..
