Things to do & places to visit in Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Bequia cover image
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a country of 32 beautiful Caribbean islands in the idyllic Caribbean, stretching south from Saint Vincent Island to Grenada. Proud of its French and British colonial history, it is now part of the Commonwealth of Nations and CARICOM. Bequia, pronounced "Beck-way”, is blessed with white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and friendly people. Port Elizabeth is a bustling yachting town. Enjoy yachting, scuba diving and snorkeling over coral reefs. Restaurants on Bequia tend to be small, friendly local enterprises. Try “goat water” soup, Bitter Lemon a popular soda and Hairoun the local brew. The island of St. Vincent, originally named Hairouna by the native Caribs, is relatively small, and its mountainous landscape makes getting around a challenge. Its capital is Kingstown and also its main port. Follow the Vermont Nature Trail and experience the spectacle of more than 500 parrots in flight. Numerous endemic species make this trail their home. Take a stroll along a scenic coastal path and take pleasure in the numerous waterfalls or hike to Fort Charlotte and be amazed by the views. Challenge yourself by a climbing the Soufriere volcano.

Bequia #1 destination in St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2023. The average rating score is 4.39 based on 2.150 traveler reviews, of 30 attractions. Timezone: America/St_Vincent, current date and time: Monday, May 13, 2024, 3:42.

  1. 5.0 Friendship Rose Sailing Schooner (253 reviews)
    - A day on the Friendship Rose!
    Boat Tours • Boat Rentals
    Friendship Rose Sailing Schooner image
While we have been on the Friendship Rose a few times, this trip was different and extra amazing. Our daughter was married in Bequia and we were trying to think of a great "Rehearsal dinner" spot. An idea sprang to life, making it a Rehearsal Day! We decided to rent the entire schooner out for the day. They can handle a maximum of 50 passengers and we were just under that. It could not have been more perfect.... knowing everyone on the ship and decided where we wanted to sail. Sarah at the Friendship Rose office was responsive and working out the details via email was as easy as could be. We set sail at 7 am to the Tobago Cayes with coffee, teach, delicious breads and fruit. Lunch was delish and the snacks kept coming. They supplied all the snorkel equipment for the guests so we could see the turtles and rays Jumping off the ship while we were anchored off the Cayes was a blast with back slips and swan dives and so much laughter. Also - they offered vegetarian meals for those who needed them ahead of time. I highly recommend a scopolimine patch if anyone is borderline seasick as it does get rocking and a rolling. All the staff were amazing.... very professional yet warm and friendly. Thank you Friendship Rose for helping to make my daughter's dream come true. See more..

  4. 5.0 Bequia Heritage Museum (6 reviews)
    - Bequia History Lesson!
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
    Bequia Heritage Museum image
I am not a museum person but this is not really a museum in the true sense of the word. We were greeted by Nicola who is enthusiastic and passionate in sharing her (extensive) knowledge of the island and its history. I think we spent around 2-2.5 hours there! The museum is split into two areas; first there is the annexe which contains various artefacts and a power point presentation (which Nicola talked us through) about the history of the island and secondly the boat museum which explains Bequia's maritime history including whaling (I cannot remember the name of the charming lady who gave us a tour of the maritime museum but she was great!). This is a 'must do' for anyone who would like to know a little more about Bequia's history. We learnt a great deal and feel we had a better understanding of the island when we subsequently explored. Nicola has a great vision for how they want the museum to expand and we wish her and her colleagues every success. See more..

I was staying at Keegan’s in lower bay. I took a bus to the other side of the island and hiked up from there , then down the other side and back to lower bay. Probably should have left earlier in the day as it was pretty warm. I started the hike at about 1030 am. Bring plenty of water. Nice breeze at the top. About 45 min each way. Spent about a half hour up top. No one else around. I highly recommend this hike. See more..
