we start the hike around 5.30 and it was an easy way up ( we traveled with a 2 year old toddler ) you can get a three-wheeler for the first 200 mtrs. they will charge you around 300 LKR Just before the hike starts at the very beginning there is a cafe and bar offering very good food and also a clean toilet facility for 50 LKR. Once you reach the top there are three peeks . one with Buddha statue and two more . you can reach two with kids but not the third. The views are amazing and you could spend two - three hours easily just without doing anything but staring at the picture square views. Wait for sun rise for best pictures. See more..

This is a majestic architecture and a wonderful scenery right in the middle of a hillside greenery. We drove up to Madhuragama, where Akasa Rd and Nine Arch Rd meet, from there took a 3 wheel(tuk tuk) to reach the bridge as the Nine Arch Road is under construction and not in good shape to travel by a car. You should time the visit to see a train passing by, you can look at the train schedules to figure out the times, but sometimes they don't come on time. One scheduled train didn't come on time, but we managed to catch the next one. So make sure you inform the tuk tuk guy you are going to stay there for a little while, otherwise they only wait for about an hour. Give your self some time to be there. See more..

Amazing hike with some of the best views imaginable of Ella. I highly recommend getting a guide, as the trail isn’t obvious or straightforward and the hike starts on some railroad tracks, so it’s good to have a local who knows the train schedule. The whole hike takes about 2 - 3 hours. I made the mistake of not respecting the elevation and needed to take a longer rest than normal from exertion. The second half is fairly vertical and requires some decent work. We started around 8am and it’s wasn’t too hot. The sunrise views require getting started about 5am. If you’re not keen on the sunrise then a 7am start should afford a more comfortable hike experience. The main peak has a water vendor and amazing views, but be sure to walk along the ridge for a second vista. There are very cute trail dogs who will do the hike along with you, too. See more..

If you don't want to get scammed 2000 rupee for a 20 min walk to the waterfall then check the location in the attached photos. This place gives free parking (the rest charge) and they have steps that go straight up to the waterfall. Just follow up, wqlk along with barbed wire on right, through a small bit of woods (wear shoes or sandles). You can hear the waterfall on right and you will probably see guides walking with paying tourists along the way... once at the waterfall go left (many ways to plunge pools further up. Researching for our trip I had found this site just 5km off the main road from Ella to Udawalawe and Yala so was it worth a stop on the way, it seemed no to most considering the few Western people reviewing. Which always gives cause to stop. And well worth the short trip oit was. Just 406 (yes ban odd number) rupees to enter, 200 metre walk takes you to the single scene of a 25 metre high standing Buddha carved into the rockface with three smaller figures on each side. Quite a sight and more so considering it was done was basic tools estimated to be over 1200 years ago. One smaller figure has a white stucco finish which it is thought may have been common to all but has eroded with time on the other figures. A quiet serene atmosphere in woodland, wonderful short visit. There are other small broken stupas around the site. See more..

The mechanism of the Demodara loop is considered to be an engineering marvel from the British colonial era. An arc of the loop can be visualized from a several spots closer to the Demodara Railway Station. However, the whole course of the loop and the mechanism is not discernible with these spots. It is recommended that you check the train schedule from the Ella Railway Station and reach the Demodara station 45mins prior to the scheduled train time. The experienced local trishaw drivers would take you to a higher elevation mount located some 8km away from where you can get a proper view of the whole mechanism, a range of mountains including little Adams Peak. The return trip to this spot from the Demodara station on trishaw costed three of us LKR 1,500 only. See more..
