1100 metres high up the mountains This monastery is well worth a visit. When we landed 5 birds of prey were flying above our heads circling round and round. This monastery was built after the Spanish prayed to end the day, the sun came up and the Spanish evicted the moors. 360 degrees views just stunning. Original lamps from end of 14th century, original tiles Santiago on a horse! See more..

I am pleased that I had stopped by here. It was well worth the 50 minute drive from Merida. This was my third Moorish castle (outside the touristy Alcazares) and I liked this castle better overall than the one at La Iruela in Jaen. The deal breaker was the free tour. Lola, our tour guide, did a great job of explaining the very interesting history of it. She also kept the tourists entertained and informed. She knew very in-depth information about the castle while being funny explaining it. She is also trilingual in Spanish, French, and English. I think Alburquerque is a must-see especially if you're American. How cool it was to visit the original Alburquerque! Anyways thanks again Lola for giving this American information about this hidden gem. I will come back and show Alburquerque to my family from New Mexico next time. See more..

It's a free museum of papercraft works. It's small (3 rooms) filled with papercraft work. The lady was explaining the history to another couple and from what I understood one guy makes all the models and the lady is his mother. Extremely nice lady. Takes you about 15 minutes to see everything and again, it's free. You cant go wrong. See more..
- 4.5 Dolmen de Lacara (54 reviews)
-Nice hike and nicely presented dolmen.
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The dolmen de lacara is a well presented dolmen site that is easily accessible and worth the small hike to find. Like so many dolmen, the ages have not been kind, but the general feel of the site is authentic and not sensationalized. Good for lovers of megalithic history. See more..
