   Lechon is an art...and I am far too impatient for it at home. Luckily Guavate has the Pork Highway with mounds of wonderful goodies. The food and the atmosphere was exactly what we were expecting and our guide Carlos was fabulous. The little shops had some fun souvenirs as well. Also highly recommend taking a trek into the forest nearby! For those 1 star ratings, no I don't 'work' there, and I am also conscious enough to realize that other places make great food outside of Kansas City. Come on...if you didn't want culture, STAY at the resort where you can get your hamburger. See more..

   You are up in the mountains but there are plenty of areas to pull off and park. Walk the trails or just walk the roads. You will see MANY birds, flowers and trees! Bananas growing wild, ginger in bloom, and hummingbirds visiting the flowers are the sights that await you in Carite Forest. There are LOTS of picnic tables and with the lechoneras on the way up to the forest you can easily take your meal from the vendors into the well groomed picnic grounds! Listen and watch for the Puerto Rican Woodpecker, PR Tody and Emerald Green Hummingbird, We saw all these and more within an hour of walking on a road. See more..
