    Zona Arqueológica de Chinkultic image
The government of Mexico has made a special effort to preserve the many archaeological sites that dot this beautiful country. Chinkultic is a great place to see pyramids, sports fields, and a village that served this part of the Mayan world. The site is extensive and very clean and well-kept. There are guides/guards who are unobtrusive but well informed and aware of everything. There are stellae (stone statues) with good explanations in parts of the park and several sites that are yet to be excavated. This is history in a stunning site filled with trees, flowers, ruins and good people who are proud of their heritage. I highly recommend it. Just outside the gates was a comedor with typical Chiapas food. I suggest you try it. I had a quesadilla filled with squash blossoms and queso fundido. May have been the best food I have ever eaten.
