If you want to experience something spectacular, and enjoy 4 star hotels and great food while doing it, then I highly recommend the Copper Canyon tour with Experience Mex-Eco tours! We did it in January 2022. They planned the itinerary down to every detail. The tour requires a considerable amount of travel by bus, airplane, and train, but Mexico is a big country, and Pancho, our tour guide who accompanied our group of 18 people gave knowledgable insight into the changing geography as we traveled through. The train ride aboard the Chepe Express conjured up childhood memories of a model railroad diorama as it winds through canyons, over trestles and through switchbacks and tunnels…and the experience is unforgettable. When you finally reach the Mirador hotel, the pace slows down. The temperature outside was freezing, (we are above 7,000 feet altitude, and it is January) but the fireplace in the dining/sitting room was inviting and warm. And the vista…you have to see it to believe it. What I have described is only a fraction of the unforgettable experience we enjoyed. We highly recommend taking this tour with Mex-Eco Tours. Friends and I went on the seafood feast excursion and had a fantastic full day of beauty, adventure, incredible food and pure bliss! Fernando and his friend Franco were helpful, attentive, fun and professional. We first went snorkeling, Fernando having picked the best location considering conditions and providing excellent equipment. It was perfect. Then he took us to the most gorgeous pristine beach, always making sure we got off and on the boat safely. Then off to Chimo for a cool canoe ride to the beach and a most delicious huge meal, including cold beers. Beers and water were also offered on the boat. My sons and I fished with Luis and his first mate Jonathan and had an awesome day. Luis's boat is great, well equipped and he and Jonathan have deep knowledge of the area. We caught lots of fish including Jack Trevaly, Bonito, Red Snapper, Spanish Mackeral and more. On top of all that they made the best ceviche on the way home which was its own carnival trick of sorts: Jonathon fillets better than anyone I have ever seen and makes ceviche on a moving boat - waves and swells - which was amazing. We took a 5 day bus tour with Flip Flop Tours to Michoacan State in Mexico and visited the amazing event of the annual Monarch Butterfly migration from Canada/USA to Mexico at the El Rosario Butterfly Reserve. We also visited Santa Clara Capula, the birthplace of the Mexican clay Catrina; Santa Clara and watched a live copper demonstration; next was the archaeological site at "Yácatas of Tzintzuntzan"; Pátzcuaro & Tlaquepaque. Our tour coordinator Dan was absolutely amazing! Dan speaks fluent English & Spanish. I went for Easter for a long paragliding and beach weekend and was surprised there were no other fliers except really friendly local guys who showed me the ropes. There are several places in the little village of La Manzanilla where I could take a yoga class, but Bending Tree is hands-down my favorite. Karen, the owner, and her yoga cats are definitely the reason. She has a lovely little rooftop patio where she holds classes and you feel like you're doing yoga in the forest. Her instructions are easy to follow, but she keeps her eyes on the students and always offers adjustments if people need them. Karen is one of the friendliest people I've met and appears to thoroughly enjoy what she does. She's always so upbeat and engaging. My mother and I have also relaxed to her wonderful reflexology treatments. I highly recommend booking her for one. See more..

Studying with Juanita was wonderful. She was a dynamic, adaptive teacher, and over the course of the month we became close friends. Her place on the mountain is stunning, the stories and lesson plans she utilizes are sound, and you won't meet a better travel advisor when looking for adventure in and around Yelapa. On top of spending five+ hours teaching me every week, Jaunita took me to the botanical gardens in Vallarta, to live jazz outside on a Sunday morning in La Cruz, and treated me like a close friend, like family. We recently visited Careyes Bay, and what a gorgeous little spot this is!! There are three beaches on this tiny bay and the hillsides are covered with the most colorful homes, estates and villas I have ever seen. A friend of mine compared it to Santorini, but the difference is that this bay is decorated in primary colors!! If you have a chance to get over to Playa Careyes or Playa Rosa on Careyes Bay, do it!!! My husband and I have traveled almost the entire Mexican coast by sailboat, and we have never seen anything like Careyes!! Beautiful Yelapa on your terms. Hop on a bus in Puerto Vallarta that drives directly to Boca de Tomatlan (20 pesos each, each way). Once there, walk down in to town down to the water taxis ($100 pesos each, each way - 30 min. wavy ride, I felt like a child). Upon arrival head straight for the town, bypass the beach (you can enjoy it later). Walk up the steps and voilà walk the narrow cobblestone streets to the falls. There is another adventure, 1.5 hour walk to a greater waterfall (my next trip). Enjoy the walk, have a bite, coffee, simply relax, then hit the beach. ***Do find out what time the water taxis depart and which ones you can take if you bought a return ticket. El transporte es horrible, por ahorrarse unos pesos contratar autobuses en pésimas condiciones, tuvimos varios incidentes en carretera y nadie se hizo responsable. Los baños y regaderas sucias y en condiciones infrahumanas. El staff es déspota, grosero y sin la mínima intención de ayudar. La organización es un fiasco. Han tenido accidentes graves durante varios eventos. Me sorprende que se siga llevando a cabo con tantos fallos en la logística.
