  1. 5.0 Boca Divers (33 reviews)
    - Fun snorkeling trip
    Scuba & Snorkelling

We had a fun trip with Carla. She’s a very educational tour guide. The snorkeling wasn’t as good as we’ve experienced in Belize, but still fun. The currents were a bit strong and we used life jackets, which get in the way but were probably necessary for us. See more..
  2. 5.0 Boca Boat Tours (9 reviews)

Anna was so accommodating and easy to communicate with. She is an American living in Mexico and knows all the tips and tricks. We told her what we wanted from our day- avoiding crowds, snorkeling, discovering chill beaches, getting off the beaten track. She took us all around, chose a great beach restaurant for lunch (Charlie’s on Quimixto) and let us relax and explore at our own pace. She had great recommendations and advice. We would highly recommend booking with Boca Boats to get the best, tailored experience for your vacation- and very affordable!! See more..

This is one of those local hidden gems - I knew about Tequila distilleries in the area but was looking also for some locally grown coffee and that's how I came across Cafe Haciena Maria Bonita - did not know what to expect really as google maps had only 1 picture but I saw "Fabrica de Cafe" so I decided to give it a shot :) Maria Bonita is located right next door to Baston Del Rey tequila distillery so it's impossible to miss it if you visit by yourself or with a group (I was surprised not to see anything on TripAdvisor as clearly they are organized to accommodate groups and one literally left right before we arrived) - the trick is that the actual doorway with the sign is from the side street versus the main road :) at first we thought it's a closed down building but all it took was to go to the side to notice the actual entrance to a very pretty courtyard. We walked around, enjoyed their coffee (they actually brew it for you and you can buy a Cappuccino, Americano etc. - they were pretty tasty to o a point that we decided to grab a bag of their roasted beans home with us - $9 for a bag and the 2 hot drinks cost us $3 - cash only which was super inexpensive). If you like local flavors, exploring nice small towns and go out of the usual tourists traps this is the place for you - very pleasant and surprising stop :) TIP: very easy 10 to 15 minutes drive into the land on the main road from Boca de Tomatlan (same road that leads you all the way to Puerto Vallarta) - plenty of free street parking. TIP: do try the local tequila tours in the area (see my other reviews if you are interested) See more..
  4. 4.5 Playa Colomitos (31 reviews)
    - Stunning beach that reminds me of Virgin Gorda!
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches

This beach is stunning and one can get there only by hiking or a boat taxi. We did the hike that took us 25 minutes through the jungle type flora. Wear sturdy shoes as there are many roots poking through the dirt. Once we arrived at the beach there were only 2 people there, however, boats were passing through just to have a look at the gorgeous beach. We put our blanket out and took turns snorkeling by the rocks. The fish were very colorful and there were plenty of them. We relaxed for a while and then hiked back to Boca de Tomatlan. See more..
  5. 4.0 Boca de Tomatlan Beach (112 reviews)
    - Great hike to Playa Las Ánimas
    Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
    Boca de Tomatlan Beach image
We enjoyed a great hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Playa Las Animas. It’s a little rocky and strenuous in places, but offers beautiful views of the coastline. The beach at Las Animas is beautiful as well and there are a number of quality beachfront restaurants. My main recommendation would be to get an early start so you can enjoy the hike, spend time at the beaches along the way, and eat lunch at Las Animas. The restaurant options in Boca de Tomatlan are not as desirable. See more..
