  2. 4.5 Le Chemin de la Corniche (1.556 reviews)
    - Well-deserved fame for its beautiful views
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Walking Areas
Le Chemin de la Corniche image
We saved La Chemin de la Corniche for the end of our self-designed walking tour through Luxembourg City, and really enjoyed the beautiful views from it, some looking down on places we'd recently walked through. The Chemin is a fairly short walkway that overlooks the valley below and has some amazing views and photos available. It's only a few minutes' walk from the Place d'Armes and definitely worth making sure you see it if you're visiting the city. See more..

  4. 4.5 Grund (1.292 reviews)
    - Lovely scenery shame about the rain
Spent 1-2 hours Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Grund image
We visited Luxembourg for the first time with our 22 year old son, who was going to a wedding on Sunday. We had a full day free on Saturday and having spent a comfortable night at Legere hotel we intended getting the bus into the City centre. Sadly it was torrential rain and we took the car and got free parking at Glacis Boulevard de la Foire. We headed on foot to The Grund which was a lovely walk, took a few photos but we could have spent ages there. Amazing views, we took the free lift back, which saved a walk. See more..
  5. 4.5 Pfaffenthal Lift (481 reviews)
    - Stunning view! A must do
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 2:00 AM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
    Pfaffenthal Lift image
Walked down from my hotel near the European Parliament to Fort Thüngen and then took the panoramic lift up to the city centre. The scenery and view over the Pfaffenthal is stunning. This is a must do attraction when in Luxemburg and it's completely free! See more..

    Viaduc (Passerelle) image

  7. 4.5 National Museum of Art and History (Musee National d'Histoire et d'Art) (436 reviews)
    - Great museum!
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums
National Museum of Art and History (Musee National d'Histoire et d'Art) image
We found it accidentally while walking to Casemate du Bock, but later returned, since the building looked very attractive. It turned out, the museum is free of charge! It is also open until 6 p.m and until 8 p.m Thursdays. It is a perfect place if you want to see art and history collection of Luxembourg or simply rest a bit on your way. The archeological section is very big, and it also contains at least two big art sections - old masters and art of Luxembourg. The structure is much bigger than it seems at first. I would recommend to concentrate on one topic and come back another day if interested. The description is mostly in French, but there are also German and English translations could be found. There is also a small cafe and a museum shop wuth souvenirs and great book selection. See more..

  9. 4.5 Parc Merveilleux (355 reviews)
    - Closest you'll get to a zoo, with rides, playground and opportunities to feed animals
    Zoos
    Parc Merveilleux image
This park is the closest you'll get to a zoo in Luxembourg, with the added bonus of rides, playgrounds and mini golf. It's not cheap (10 euro entry for adults and 6 for kids) so I recommend it for a half of full day visit to make it worth while. Animal feed bags are available at the gift shop for 1.70 euro per bag, and the rides (train, cars and pretend horses) are 1 euro each. In 2017 the park is open from early April to early October. Our kids love this park and could easily spend a whole day at it. See more..
  10. 4.5 Petrusse Casemates (281 reviews)
    - Great views and fun exporing this maze of tunnels
    Caverns & Caves
    Petrusse Casemates image
While the views may not be as spectacular as from the Bock casemates, they are very impressive. The maze of tunnels and the height of these enforcements make one realize why Luxumbourg was indeed a true fortress. Well worth a visit and make sure you add some time to your visit in case you get lost in the tunnels (I did!). Lots of stairs to climb, so I would not recommend to someone who has mobility problems. Also, some low ceilings in the tunnels in certain places (mind your head). See more..
  11. 4.5 Wenzel Circular Walk (194 reviews)
    - Amazing and romantic itinerary
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Wenzel Circular Walk image
I like a lot to walk, that is why I would never live anywhere else but in Europe. This is a nice spot of Luxembourg-ville where you can reconnect with nature, in the heart of the city. We visited the 'secret gardens' where I got some nice seeds, to plant at home and I liked to walk along the river. The rocks are impressive and I visited also the casemates, that are very close to this, with my boyfriend - there we took many funny photos. There is nothing more amazing than to enjoy such a place with the partner of your dreams. Have safe trips! See more..

    - Loved it
    Parks
Gaalgebierg, Le Parc Municipal Escher Déierepark Escher Bamhaiser image
It was a brief weekend visit. I was expecting some entry fee, but, was surprised by a free entry. The parking is approx 300m away (which is fine). It is a small park (wheel chair or baby stroller friendly), good enough for a quick Saturday stroll. There’s a small cafe (loved the concept and hospitality), clean washrooms and thoughtfully planned seating areas. There’s good ensemble of animals (goats, deers, highlanders, ducks, hens and raccoons). Will visit again See more..

    - Hidden gem
Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • History Museums
    Fort Thungen image
Let’s face it - there not a lot of things to do in Luxembourg City. All the more reason to visit the fort! It was a surprisingly interesting place. Free entry, lots to look at and a nice spot on the edge of some nice woodland. Worth a wander off the beaten path :) See more..
  19. 4.5 Sandweiler German Military Cemetery, Luxembourg (89 reviews)
    - Humbling Experience
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
Sandweiler German Military Cemetery, Luxembourg image
This cemetery is only 1.5 miles away from the American Cemetery, so don't pass this up. It's painful, yet humbling to give respect to so many young men, that didn't know what they were doing. They were just listening to the propaganda and gave their lives. I am quite sure that many of their families live no more than 50 km's away in nearby Germany. There were wreathes, flowers, candles on some graves to prove this thought. Also, there unbelievable and numerous amounts of "A German Soldier," so unidentified and unknown. The cemetery is kept by donations and it's very kind they are not forgotten. Over 10,000 remains lie here. See more..

  22. 4.5 Pétrusse Parks (72 reviews)
    - Serenity in the middle of the city
    Parks • Hiking Trails
    Pétrusse Parks image
The park is like being in another world. You quickly forget there is a big city above and around you. We hired vel'oh bicycles and rode all along the Petrusse. It was one of the best things we have done. Fresh air, exercise and stunning sights along the way. I understand it can be a steep walk in/out, but if you come and go via the Grund/St Esprit, there is a lift just behind the Palais de Justice which makes it very easy to access the oasis that lies below. See more..

  25. 4.5 Musee National des Mines de Fer Luxembourgeoises (55 reviews)
    - A very pleasant surprise.
    Speciality Museums
Musee National des Mines de Fer Luxembourgeoises image
At a cemetery looking for my wife's ancestors we ran into a very friendly gravedigger, Carlos, who told us amongst other things to go to this museum. I'm very glad we did. The tours are led in Luxembourgish, but the audio guides have a quality English option. We were the only ones on our particular tour, so the guide tried his darnedest to give us the tour in broken English. It was SO SWEET! Very interesting material and a well put together tour. Also the restaurant on the grounds of the museum is very good. And there is a nice little playground to keep the kids entertained while you wait for your tour to start. Caution: The tour takes around 2 hours or so, and it is quite chilly within the mine (~50's Farenheit). Bring a jacket or sweatshirt no matter the outside temperature See more..
  26. 4.5 Luxtram (23 reviews)
    - It's Free!
    Trams • Public Transportation Systems
    Luxtram image
There is one tram route within Luxembourg and goes through the centre of the city to the outskirts. One thing I liked that I have never seen on any other tram network is that the trains in the city centre do not run under wires. It's only when they get out of the old city that the pantograph goes up and they run under wires. Enough geeking out! The trams are clean and during the day run every few minutes. They are mobility friendly which is a huge plus point. The best thing about the trams is that they are free to use which is the same with the trains in the country as well. See more..

  28. 4.0 Casemates du Bock (2.403 reviews)
    - World Heritage Site
Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
    Casemates du Bock image
This is a World Heritage Site. Luxembourg's old quarters and fortifications. The city itself was founded in 963 and has played a significant role in European history throughout the centuries. We came during winter so weren't able to visit the tunnels but we were able to walk around the top parts and get some amazing views of the city. This is a must if you are in Luxembourg. See more..
  29. 4.0 Cathédrale Notre-Dame (2.046 reviews)
    - Luxembourg's lone cathedral!
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
    Cathédrale Notre-Dame image
Not the biggest or most ornate cathedral in Europe but still definitely impressive. Construction of the Gothic-style cathedral began in 1613 and, like most around the world, continued in fits and starts for centuries. The church was enlarged and completed in its current form in the 1930s. There are unique designs on the massive interior structural columns. Four different sets of organ pipes. Ten intricately carved wooden confessionals. And a beautiful painting of Mary. In all, well worth a visit! See more..
  30. 4.0 Grand Ducal Palace (1.144 reviews)
    - Grand and Grandeur
    Historic Sites • Castles
    Grand Ducal Palace image
The Grand Ducal Palace is situated in Old Town. It is also the home to the Grand Duke. Even when I visited there was a sign outside the main entrance saying that the Grand Duke and family, are currently there. Of course one couldn't enter. But you can regale at it's beauty and grandeur from the outside. There's a amazing bookstore just before you make the turn for the Palace and some good restaurants in the promenade too. You can get inside tours of the Palace in the summer from July until the end of August. See more..
