Orthodox Monastery - very special place for a visit.The construction of Orthodox monastery was started in 1897, when six sisters arrived from the monastery in Rīga and settled down in a small wooden house. Afterwards they built one church with the assistance of Kalnciems factory workers. I was there recently with my friends while we were in Tukums during the Rose Festival when Spark played, and we were astonished by this place. So many hand made things. Bears, pottery, random art pieces with paint spilled on them, earrings, so so much thinsg. Dolls. Omg, I love the dolls there. So many dolls. Theyre so cute. They even tell you about the place if you ask but I don't remember much but it was fun to listen to. Definately a place to go to and take a look. See more..

Well I was amazed about staff profesional work, even parking on grass was quickly because of staff great work.It was a long row to buy tickets, but there is opportunity to buy tickets online and then just show them on screen.there is also workers who can help you to buy tickets online if you dont want to stay in the line.the museum just amazing.The exhibition stunning, but sometimes in palace rooms were a little bit hot.And by the way, when you are going with babies you have to leave a crib by the entrance, its a little bit uncomfortable. We stopped here on the way from Riga to Vilnius and spent about an hour and a half wandering around this magnificent palace and taking numerous photos of the furnishings etc. The building which dates back to the 18th century suffered serious damage in the 20th century and was used as a school until 1978. After that restoration began and was only completed in 2014! What a wonderful job they have done. Rundale is now the crown of Latvia and very much worth visiting. Unfortunately our visit was too early in the year to appreciate the gardens which must look stunning in the summer months. See more..

If you are touring Jelgava, visiting the Holy Trinity Church tower is a must. There are nice modern interactive exhibits on several floors. In one of the exhibits on fashion, I learned that Jelgava was a big fashion destination and even Casanova visited the town. But the real draw is the top floor viewing area. The glass rooftop is striking and offers a beautiful view of the entire town especially on a clear sunny day. See more..

We will return to go inside The Orthodox Church of The Holy Spirit and men's monastery as we only had time to see it from outside. Every year the monastery is attended by pilgrims to honor the miraculous icon of Holy Mother of Jakobstadt. Initially in the tower there was a bell gifted by Anna, Duchess of Courland and Empress of Russia (it was lost during World War I). The atmosphere around the Church was very quit, calm and inviting. If you are going from Riga without a car, there is a bus to Jekabpils and a train (but train stops only in Krustpils, you will have to walk about 3km to Jekabpils). At Brīvības street 140/142 there is a tourist information centre (during winter season opened only on working days). See more..

Bauska Tourism Information Centre is located in the heart of the old town of Bauska in restored Bauska Town Hall. It is easy to reach centre - it is located near the A7 road, next to it is the bus stop "Rātslaukums", and a spacious parking lot. Tourist information centre staff will provide free information about attractions, activities, accommodations, catering and main events in Bauska, Iecava, Rundāle and Vecumnieki municipalities in several languages (Latvian, Russian, English and Swedish). At the centre it is possible to buy Lux Express bus tickets, maps, brochures, postcards and souvenirs. There is also free exposition "Weight and measure in Bauska", where one can learn about the history of the Bauska Town Hall, the ancient weights and measures used in Kurzeme Zemgale Duchy, as well as to be measured in ancient units - feet, pods and get a certificate afterwards. The exposition is available as for individuals, as for groups. Groups have to book visit in advance! Tourist information centre offers free tourism brochures about Bauska and surrounding, main tourism destinations in Latvia. Computer with an Internet connection as well as Wi-Fi is available here. Before visiting Bauska it is possible to download tourism brochures and maps or use route planner. Tourist Information Centre is open every day. Keeping tropical butterfly house in Latvia can have high costs. As we found out butterflies just live around 10-30 days, so these guys need to order cocoons every other week to keep them flying around. It's small green house but well maintained, lot's of food for butterflies, high humidity and temperature around 30 degrees Celsius. Compared to other butterfly house in Latvia (LU botanical garden) in this one you really can see diversity – more than 10 or maybe 15 types of butterflies. There is explanatory pamphlet and world butterfly map. Some activities for kids before entrance. Some people complain about the 3,50EUR entrance, but considering costs of maintenance, it's appropriate. See more..

Природный парк с разными сложностями тропы- есть тропы на 1-1.5 часа (детская) , на 2-3 часа (3.8км), они по кругу. И есть самая длинная на 8 км, но она приведет не к началу. Мы пошли по 3.8 км - она включает в себя 28 дендрологических, 10 геологических объектов, разные статуэтки из дерева и другое. Нам посчастливилось увидеть косуль совсем рядом. За день до нашего приезда шел сильный дождь, поэтому нас предупредили быть предельно осторожными - деревянные ступени и глина очень скользкие. Мы любим природные парки, и такие тропы - остались довольны. Когда мы приехали - касса работала, вход и парковка были платные. See more..
