    Frederiksborg Slotskirke image
This is part of the Frederiksborg Castle museum and included in the ticket. Short after the start of the route through the castle we visit this chapel. After two minutes we were directly (not very nicely) away because a service would start shortly. After finishing the route we did use our tickets again to take a proper look. We could walk around the second floor looking down on the chairs and the pulpit. The chapel has an impressive ceiling and organ. See more..

    - Collecting Sound Dues
Wednesday: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Skibsklarerergaarden image
Instructive to see accounts of the source of much of the country’s, and Helsingør’s, prosperity over many centuries. Controlling the fees levied on ships passing through Øresund was a mainstay of wealth and they ceased only in the mid-1800s under pressure from other major sea faring and trading countries. In a grand preserved building the exhibits and recreations are absorbing. A ship-chandler on the entrance floor is said to be Denmark’s oldest intact shop interior. See more..

    - Loads to keep children of all ages entertained. The best interactive science museum we have visited.
Wednesday: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Children's Museums
    Experimentarium image
We visited as it was one of the activities included in the Copenhagen card. It was well worth the trip out of the centre of Copenhagen (a couple of stops on the train or an hour's walk). It was a brilliant day out, there was so much to do we didn't get chance to do everything. It is very interactive and our children (aged 10 and 12) absolutely loved it. There were so many interactive exhibits-bubbles, a storm simulator, a sensory experience, team activities and a theatre to name a few. There were live science displays as well-the staff were very fluent in both Danish and English (and switching between the two) very impressive. It is the best science museum we have visited and if it was closer to home (England!!) we would definitely be back. See more..

    Jægerborg Dyrehave image
We saw hundreds of deer, spread out over the fields in large herds. Various types of deer are kept on these former royal hunting grounds. Entrance is free -- just walk in and enjoy the lovely landscape and the many deer. Horse-drawn carriages are available for hire if you don't want to walk. Excellent walking through fields and woods. The king's former hunting lodge is in the center of the property, but it was not open for visitors when we were there. There is a rudimentary bathroom and water fountain on the property. See more..

  8. 4.5 Fredensborg Palace (192 reviews)
    - Peace Castle
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Fredensborg Palace image
Fredensborg Palace was built in the beginning of the 18th Century. The image of an Italian country villa was on the drawing board when Frederick IV began construction on his Baroque palace. The king wanted to create a haven where his family life could flourish. This Baroque masterpiece took seven years to complete, and during this time the gardens were also planted. When Frederick IV died, his son Christian VI pulled down wings of the palace and erected new ones, which he, albeit, generally never made use of. It was only when Christian IX came to the throne that the palace was used for the purpose for which it was built. In the summer months, Christian IX and his queen Louise's 6 children, their children's spouses and 36 grandchildren flocked to Fredensborg Palace. Laughter and the trip-trap of tiny feet echoed in the palace halls, and members of the Danish Royal Family would spend time playing in the gardens. Ever since those happy days, the Danish Royal Family has been moving into the palace for the summer months, giving the youngest members of the family a trove of carefree childhood memories to treasure. The Royal Couple use the palace for three months in the spring and three months in the autumn. They celebrate weddings, silver wedding anniversaries and birthdays at the palace. Fredensborg also provides a setting for Her Majesty to carry out her official duties. She receives heads of state and ambassadors who submit their credentials to her at the palace. In the summer, Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary use the palace as a summer residence. They have their own residential quarters in the Chancellery House. The expansive Baroque palace gardens are open to the public all year round. The palace and the Private Gardens are open for guided tours from July 1st to August 7th. See more..

Wonderful in brick craft it is a treasured legacy from the 1400s. Moving beyond the outstanding façade in red and stepping inside is to see a fabulous organ dating from the early 1660s. This is just one of the impressive features. An exquisite pulpit adorned with superb holy images is on the way to the altar area. Pews in light grey have a scallop shell motif on each. A gorgeous ceiling crowns the grand array of columns and arches. The fine cloister shows its origins as part of the Carmelite Monastery. See more..

    Nordsjaellands Fuglepark image
I visited with my 8yr old. Good place few hours with pre-teens. Many birds, appeared well cared for, even though in captivity, which was expected since it is a Zoo. Highlights were the rainforest aviary where you are in the same enclosure with birds AND the Bird show which we could unfortunately not get the most of since we cannot understand Danish. Yet, it was great. In summary, we’re glad we went. See more..

Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums • Science Museums • Children's Museums • History Museums
Danish Museum of Science and Technology image
Once you enter the doors you instantly forget that it is situated in a somewhat boring place and building in Helsingør (45 km north of Copenhagen). The buildings are packed with technical and historical gadgets in all sizes - airplanes, fire engines, bycicles, telephones, cars, motorbikes, helicopters etc. etc. If you are a little boy - or have a little boy inside you - you will love running around for a few hours at least. Bring your own food and have it on the grass outside (close to an old steam engine) - or go to Helsingør for it. The cafeteria is not worth a visit, but the museum is definitely! See more..

  25. 4.0 Knud Rasmussens Hus (77 reviews)
    - Very interesting part of danish history
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Knud Rasmussens Hus image
House is open from easter to october. The house was built in 1917, while Knud was away on The 2nd Thule Expedition. Rather than being a traditional summer residence for the family, the house came to be a place for Knud to immerse himself in his work away from the bustle and social commitments of the capitol. In 1939 Knud's widow, Dagmar Rasmussen, made over the grounds and the house with all its contents to Torup Parish. Shortly thereafter it was opened to the public and has been so ever since.Helge Bojsen-Moller was the architect, and in drawing up the blueprints for the house he was inspired by the English "cottage style" of the day. Apart from being a renowned architect In Denmark, he had also been at the head of a number of building projects in Greenland. He was an obvious choice for the task. Some years following the building of the main house an annex was added. This became Knud's private study and was later connected to the main house via a long corridor. See more..

    - Outstanding
    Religious Sites
    Skt. Olai's Kirke image
A wonderful place of worship with a long history given that its foundations date back to the 13th century. What we admire today was finished in the mid 1500s. Outstanding in brick and grand in style, it looked most impressive in the mid morning light. Inside is marvellous. Gilt ornamentation is throughout particularly so around the altar. A terrific organ is in place. A delightful pulpit is just one of the features of the great nave. Crowned by a lovely ceiling in white. See more..
