Putuoshan
Interesting place to get to. Two boat journeys were required, one to Zhoushan and then a high speed boat to Putuoshan. The place is easy to get around but I was irritated that at every building a fee was required. Some very obviously devout pilgrims were there but to many false monks and money making operations abound. For the foodies the sea food is unusual.. including live baby octopus,, and expensive. But the vegetarian restaurant in the temple was great value. Its better to stay in Zhoushan rather than on Putuoshan [so expensive]. Try the local wildberry wine on Zhoushan..goes down like cider but packs a hell of a punch.

Summer fun!
The beaches are absolutely beautiful, the one with the main sand sculptures required an entrance fee but wasn't a huge amount. Despite it being late in the year the beach was busy, expect people to flock in the summer. We went in Autumn and still enjoyed swimming and beach based activities. If you are planning a few hours at the beach take a cooler with drinks and snacks with you, the shops are basic....ah, and if a guy dressed up as the monkey king asks for a photo he is after money.
