More than just a bridge.
Yes, a bridge is just a bridge. When you think about any of the most 'beautiful' bridges in the world are just means to get from one side to another whether it's Brooklyn or San Francisco or good ole Shaoxing. This bridge is minuscule for sure, but it's all about the environment - it's surroundings are the sort of thing Westerners dream of when they imagine what they think 'real' China is going to be like and usually end up disappointed by the reality. Here in an increasingly sidelined quarter of the city you can experience that Western fantasy, washerwomen and artisans and all. This sort of thing will eventually disappear from the behemoth that is modern China and we should cherish it.

Back to past
Yes, it is a stone bridge, but the best is arrive to it. Is really nice let behind you the crowded and modern shaoxing streets and walk into the old China ambience. It is really easy imagine how the people live in the past. Very very relaxing walk beside the channel, no shops, no bars, just quiet people making his dayly tasks.

An old bridge
Not a big area, but there are some old buildings with old people live inside around this area. There is a Catholic church just near the bridge. Not so many tourist come here, sometimes there are couples have some photos e.g. weeding photos here. Firstly, I did not understand why this bridge could be so famous, then a local old man told me: "This bridge had 4 sides of stairs, and when you saw two of them from each side, it would like the chinese letter of eight (Ba Zi).
