Go early before the crowds

Unfortunately some of the places at the V & A were closed over the Christmas/New Year holidays so I couldn't see all the places I wanted to e.g. the MOCCA Museum. If you go early in the morning you can avoid some of the crowds that gather later in the day. Luckily the area is large enough to cater to all these visitors, but getting a seat in a cafe can be problematic. There are some great shops there, but the prices tend to be higher than elsewhere in town. The excellent Robben Island tour leaves from here. It is a great place for photos and people watching.

Best area to stay in Cape Town
If you will be staying in Cape Town, we highly recommend finding an accommodation in the Waterfront. We enjoy exploring our vacation destinations and leaving time to just “discover” the area, but that can be difficult in some cities. As we were visiting in winter, the sun set somewhat early (18:00) and we greatly appreciated being able to walk home from dinner or a bar without needing to organize an Uber as we would in other locations. We also have had some Uber troubles in SA, so this was a huge plus. Great for families and couples alike with excellent views of Table Mountain. Our favorite spots include Cause and Effect, La Parada, the Food Market, and Mitchell’s.

Enjoyable to walk to from our hotel.
There is a farmers/craft market on the weekends. There are mostly fairly high end stores but if you need to pick up low cost items while you wait for your lost luggage to appear, you can go to Mr Price. There are loads for nice restaurants and places to take your photo. There is often entertainment at selected locations. And of course there are the local sea lions
