Well Worth the Trip!

Contrary to popular belief the Cape of Good Hope is not the southernmost point of the African continent. Instead, it is Cape Agulhas which we were not lucky enough to get to on our voyage. However, our trip to the Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain National Park was fantastic! It's worth the hike up the hill to the lighthouse and the flora and fauna are just wonderful to enjoy. I saw wild Zebra, Ostrich, Kudu and Spring Bok and a large female Baboon was hanging around or picnic area waiting for just the right morsel to appear. She did spy a nice man and child's ice cream, but they weren't giving it up and managed to evade her. After going through the garbage, she decided she was not happy with leftovers and promptly moved to the exit of the cafe where she managed to swipe a whole fresh lunch from a man's hand. Of course, he was stunned and not thrilled but as a rule of thumb goes you NEVER argue with a hungry Baboon and gracefully surrender your goods. Highly entertaining and worth the time!

Worth a visit but the entrance system is abysmal and needs addressing
It took us over half an hour to get in which is completely unacceptable - not quite sure why the queue didn't move for ages. Then you are eventually greeted by surly and uninterested staff and you are paying R320 for this. This is very expensive by SA standards when you could get some change from this for two tickets at the cricket Test match. I do acknowledge they have upkeep costs but the price was still something of a shock. It is debatable whether it is worth driving to the Cape of Good Hope itself as car parking is tight and tourist coaches arrive all the time disgorging their passengers who only seem to want to have their photos taken against the iconic sign. For energetic ones there is quite a challenging but scenic boardwalk walk in the main, to Cape Point. However if you have your own transport there are some truly stunningly beautiful beaches to visit. Among others I would recommend Platboom and on the other side Buffels Bay where you may meet some baboons. There is also 10 minute or so circular scenic drive. These lovely beaches and the rugged scenery plus a visit to Cape Point make this a visit well worth doing.
