SO MANY BIRDS TO SEE OUTSTANDING

Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometer of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

    Otherworldly
What a phenomenal place. The enclosure, the walkways through beautiful vegetation, and the quirkiest experiences with friendly parrots talking to you at the entrance and loerries that listen to your voice and jump on your shoulder, or my head, making this quite otherworldly. A word about the restaurant. While the prices are more than reasonable and the drinks are served quickly, and the roosterbrood meals are well worth a wait, the cold lasagna is not worth the over three quarters of an hour we had to wait for the meals to dribble out over twenty minutes. It's a pity that the kitchen cannot keep up with even a few tables, which puts tremendous stress on really lovely servers who tried their best today to keep face in front of our hungry and eventually disappointed faces. I'm not sure if the service is any better at Monkeyland, although I did notice their menu prices are almost double. I hope this quaint little restaurant sorts itself out as it has so much going for it, in terms of location good food and servers who deserve a medal, never mind a tip.

    Lovely walk round bird spotting
Worth it for something different and to see some birds close up. Definitely take binoculars. Seats are available on the way. The aviary incorporates fully grown trees and a stream bubbling down through the middle.
