    A great animal experience
While camping in the area— and after just touring Lion Country Safari the day before— we decided to to make the weekend all about wildlife by visiting McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary. Lion Country Safari is a tough act to follow; you drive your vehicle through the park with (mostly African) animals right next to your car. But McCarthy’s got rave Trip Advisor reviews and we were nearby, so why not? What a fantastic experience. You don’t get a lot of history behind the Sanctuary in the beginning, so I recommend you stop by the “museum” (one room with fascinating memorabilia) after the tour to see some amazing old photos and learn about the owner’s commitment to animals and investment in the property. The tour itself is about 2 hours long and is narrated by a guide. Our small group guide was Alexis, and she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and you could tell she simply loved the animals (and for gosh sakes, please tip these folks!). The animal enclosures are amazingly clean and well-organized. The animals are quite varied and include reptiles, primates, birds, and the stars of the show, big cats. Alexis gave us not only information about the lifespans, diets and habits of the animals, but also insight into the personalities of each one, adding extra depth to the tour. Overall, we had a great time at the Sanctuary. The ticket price initially seemed a little pricey, until you hear how much the big cats alone eat each week. It was a terrific learning experience, and you get close to these beautiful creatures. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to go. You’ll love it.

A Don't Miss Experience for All Ages
McCarthy's is a jewel in a hidden away area of West Palm Beach. We had a wonderful experience with our guide, Jeremy. My granddaughter, a 10 year old, daughter and myself thoroughly enjoyed the day. Jeremy was engaging and interactive with all those on a tour of about 12 or so. He was funny and informative as well. We were able to hold many of the unique animals or watch Jeremy feed some of the large cats and give them high 5's. Iwas also impressed with how clean the facilities were. There were some younger children, probably older preschoolers, that also enjoyed the tour. I highly recommend it!
