Sunset at Antelope State Park is stunning
We took a break in early March from skiing to see the Great Salt Lake 43 minutes outside of SLC. Antelope Island State Park emerges seemingly out of no where after a drive thru suburban sprawl and is stunning. $15 entry per car, $10 for seniors, and you drive across a 7 mile causeway into the park with beautiful plant and wildlife on either side. The bodies of water shimmer with browns and greys and blues and we saw a gorgeous sunset. The restaurant closes at 4 and the visitor center at 5 so we missed them but drove thru the park stopping at scenic views and breaking for Bison along the roadway. Don’t miss this - it’s truly memorable thing of unusual beauty. Artists bring your canvases!

    Beautiful day exploring Antelope Island!
We loved our day at Antelope Island. It was an easy 45 minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City. We arrived at the gate and paid a $15 daily entrance fee and then made our way to the visitor center. It is worth a trip to the visitor center before getting started for the day, it has information about the island and wildlife in a fun and easy to read format. We then did a short 1 mile up and back hike called buffalo point trail. A good hike to get the blood moving for the day and nice views from the top of the mountain. Then to Bridger Bay to park and get our feet in the Salt Lake. It is quite the walk to get from where you park to actually touching the water. The water was surrounded by little black flies but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Then into the water with the tiny shrimp, a fun experience. I recommend driving the main road from the entrance to the ranch, beautiful and you will see tons of bison.
