One of Tarpon Springs’ best kept secrets is the 1883 Safford House Museum. Visiting the home of one of the city’s original developers is a journey back in time. The Safford House has been restored to its original Victorian splendor and is open to the public. Today the Safford residence is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and operated by the City of Tarpon Springs as a museum. The house is a fine example of late 19th century Florida vernacular architecture and is filled with period furnishings and original family possessions that bring the Safford family to life. A visit offers the opportunity to get acquainted with the family and to experience Florida life more than 100 years ago. See more..

This small museum at the west side of Craig Park and associated with the Welcome Center features sponge harvesting industry and local history. Because of the pandemic, hours are limited, I believe closing at 3:00—at least on that Friday I was there. Displays by local artists enhance the esoteric history with visual interpretations. A wealth of information about the Greek sponge harvesting industry featured here is unlike anything a Web search can offer. See more..

Had seen them before in situ during a service but this visit they are absent being refurbished following a 5 year restoration of the church necesitated by sink hole damage. The church is a christian center of the community. Volunteers are busy week days fabricating quits and children's dresses and tote bags etc or persons in need, The grounds feature a memory garden of fragrant trees and shrubs. See more..
